  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Picture of a Weapon

That is my point; top handle/arm/monitor... one piece or module

I call it a module because it may employ pressure connectors like other modules/mounts

To me there's no handle in there. Looks like the same mechanism currently on the monitors for swivel and tilt. Not sure I'd want to grab at that section and carry the weight of the camera from it personally. I mean look at the scale of that gap. Doesn't look big enough to even slide your fingers through.

I am seeing what Matt sees. Given the scale of the monitor base, I don't think it it's a "handle."

I wouldn't carry it by the current monitor either, but if this one is different; more beefy and better secured... The back section rises up to meet it. That seems more secure, and if the front did the same it would be rock solid.

Honestly I had not considered the area in front that you highlighted in yellow but I had at first thought the rear one might be a knob as you suggest. You may be right, but I'm seeing the battery.

Sorry Markus, but you get the Gio Scope v2. ;-)

huh? Those are two completely different parts in those pics. Giovanni's just shows the attached XL Module, not a battery. The monitor mount is very close to camera which gives the illusion it is larger, doubt it's a battery.. 95% sure those are knurled knobs to do away with the little screws that need an allen key. This shows the top view of the XL Module which is what you are pointing at in the Giovanni pic:

XL Module? What is that then if not a battery module with an XL battery inserted in the side?

I think you're seeing a contour built into the design, not a battery in the side of it... The flash from camera added shadows around that contour which makes it look deeper.

I believe Matt is correct, those are definitely screw down knobs for the monitor

It's a head scratcher! Can't wait until April. When is the next leak coming?

So maybe the part with the XL marking in the Gio pic is a latching mechanism not unlike the red "EJECT" pictured above?

It does say Redvolt XL on top there though.

Could really go for some of that fake CSI "enhancing" techniques right about now to zoom into that back wall with the monitor on it.

The more I look at it, it looks like the photos that have already been leaked

Scott, I think you need to visualize the camera turned 90 degrees.

I don't follow Bob. I see Gio's fingertips clutching the bottom of the camera, with the operator's side facing us and the lens mount hiding under his sweatshirt. Which way should I be seeing it?

It does look more like a first gen Walkman than a cinema camera. damn

No one else has posted it, so I guess I will... From Jarred's Facebook this morning around 4AM...

My first impression when I saw this picture was that the object that said RED on it was an inserted Mini-mag. This would certainly confirm that the new Mini-Mag module will be very different from the one in use now.

I'm thinking that the mini mag might be part of the new monitor. you see the extra thickness on the back half? Now that may just be there to conform to the shape of the body, but I don't think Red would allow that space to go unused.

It may be a stretch but I have nothing if not an imagination. ;-)

Heh. Some of you guys are crazy :)

Maybe Weapon is only a 1080p Alexa Killer... Hmm?

If you think Red is ever releasing something more "1080p-centric", especially in 2015, you'd be rather crazy.

Red's focus for digital cinema cameras = 4K+.

That could work in this image... if the mini-mag is inserted horizontally, the camera could be lying lens-side down with the apparent monitor twisted into its shown position.

But if as you suggest the mini-mag and monitor are more-or-less coupled together, then the Mini Mag could be inserted vertically from top to bottom (with a spring loaded door or rubber insert to keep cookie crumbs out) just behind the apparent monitor.

That would certainly allow the body to be thinner.

C'mon Phil Holland - do you really think I'm that big of an idiot? Maybe you didn't notice I had my smarty pants on paired with a nice sarcasm shirt, and was wildly micro dissecting every clue :)
