  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Picture of a Weapon

yes same REDVOLTS and same RED BRICKS.

Methinks there is the key. There will be more than one option, i.e. legacy one. Next will be new hotness.

Yep! ...don't like the HDMI port? Remove it!
.
.
Disclaimer: ...just speculation on my part.

Jarred, will the current XL battery module work with the new camera?

Cheers,

Milan
There's a curve on the bottom of that XL which might be a mounting point to the new weapon adaptor module from the last pic of the new XL module.

I'm thinking mix and match, a la OLPH filters. Unscrew a couple screws and slap on a new side that has the setup you need.

Modular is the way of the future. Long are gone the days where you carried everything you needed in all situations all the time. Built to suit, that's something you want to hear more often.

I shot with a non-RED camera for a 3 day long project, lovely images, but i kept wishing i could take somethings apart, make it lighter when handheld was needed... and of course i left my ronin at home.

I see it is a Weapon that could be in a Transformers movie!

You might be on to something there. I was thinking that what we're seeing is just another module (but with all the legacy connectors on the side instead of underneath).

I must say, aside from higher frame rates, 4k SDI output etc, two things I'm really hoping for are internal prores recording and lower power operation. It would be great if reds could be some of the best cinema cameras AND some of the best documentary cameras all in one body.

Here some other crazy hopes:
- Internal ND
- Internal, rotating OLPFs. Wouldn't it be great to load in your favorite OLPFs and quickly switch btwn them?

Never thought I'd be happy to see mini-XLRs (those are mini-XLRs, right?). I hope Weapon IO is ludicrously inexpensive (more like, ships-with-brain, and then gets taken off merely to save a few ounces.)

I guess my biggest question would be what, other than standard redmags, will or won't work with the new body? Monitor, modules, mounting plates or other accessories. I'm hoping that there will be some crossover. Even if it has to be an adapter, module or otherwise, that will allow us to use most of what we already have. If I only need to worry about upgrading my media, that would be nice.

I do wish that Red would take a leaf out of Arri's book and in instead of dropping a stylised picture every couple of weeks and 'announcing' that there is going to be an announcement they would just tell us what is in store for weapon. With the Alexa Mini you know exactly what you're getting right out of the box, they don't try and apple style marketing campaign.....Don't get me wrong, I love the dragon, we have the carbon and its an incredible camera but this constant 'tease' isn't fun and cool and exciting....its frustrating, irritating and makes it incredibly difficult to make any sort of business decisions.

For the love of Glob please come out with REDVOLTS 2.0. Promise we won't riots for trade-ins, just a list of battery recycling centers for our DEADVOLTS :)

Well maybe if the weapon no longer needs a front fan that would mean that the system runs cooler and requires less power and the volts last longer. That would be amazing.

Yep...
IF you look at the "EJECT BUTTON" pic, you can see what looks like a module that says "WEAPON I/0" on the top.
It also looks like there's something sticking off the side to the right (possibly a port).
I'm thinking that IS a module. ...the "WEAPON I/O" LEGACY PORT MODULE. ...with all the legacy ports on the side, as seen in Dino's pic.
Sitting behind that is the new XL MODULE.

Guessing this is a top image of a mix/match side module, i.e. new hotness.

I don't want to be that guy, but "GUHHHHH...HDMI?! Please give us two to three SDI feeds with different luts (log or even Rec.709)!"

Also looks like mini XLRs? not so crazy about that.

HDMI 4K would be cool actually...can hook up to all kind of TVs and monitors...
