  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Peter Lik...

Let me say again... this jpeg does not do the final output (print) justice. Proof will be seen by those who come to RSH on Nov. 3rd.

EPIC is amazing. It was used to shoot Spiderman. And is being used to shoot The Hobbit. And Prometheus. And many other big budget features. It is also being used by the top fashion photographers to shoot covers and spreads of major magazines... like W, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and Interview. It is being used by landscape photographers like Peter Lik. And sports photographers.

5K at 120fps. REDCODE RAW.

The applications are endless.

No other camera can make these claims.

Jim

We also shot a Phase One 80MP back stitched. EPIC won.

BTW... we shot several lenses, including Canon. The 50mm RPP was by far and away the best. That was the lens used in this shot.

I LOVE these two details!! can you articulate the 'why' on both of these points? I just want to have some details when I repeat this awesome story!

When can I order mine??? :)

Jim, how can we say thankyou enough? SIMPLY AMAZINGLY AWESOME.

I spend most of my time in the print business - would you have this printed en masse and sold at the red-store?
This image hanging 10feet wide on the walls of photo-shop and print-shop offices will sell the RED technology like crazy.

The Phase One lenses (Mamiya) have a ton of resolution falloff on the edges... the RPPs don't. The Canons were a big disappointment on the edges. When resolution counted on the edges, the Canons were just not there. It was a big surprise to all of us. Anything over 70mm, the Canons were fine. 50mm and below... they just didn't measure up.

When it comes to pure resolution, the answer is RPPs, Master Primes and Leicas.

Jim

A lot of this was Peter's techniques. It isn't for me to spill the beans.

Jim

Curious too as to how this was done. Pan and stitch various frames? In any case, this is incredible. Now I want one, even more.

I absolutely agree with your statement Jim, and I'll add agin that even so the Master Primes are 4 times the price of RED PRO PRIMES, the 50mm RPP has shown to be sharper the the 50mm MP, I was truly amazed!!

The however the LEICA SC Primes, really do out do even what was for em the Best glass in the world, the MP's, so now the new King of INSANE resolution edge to edge are the LEICA's,
of course if you don't or can't afford over 20k per lens glass, then I'l strongly;y suggest to any one serious about resolution to get their RPP's, and ABSOLUTELY DON'T do without what to me its an also
AMAZING piece of glass... THE RPP 300MM, lens which after deciding on "RAPE of a BEAUTY, framing not allowing for 3D, the RPP 300mm, will be used a LOTs... ;)

There was no noise reduction whatsoever. The grading was Peter's choice. I happen to love it.

This was taken at a magical moment. It looks like what we saw. Incredible....

Jim

Am I the only one that thinks this looks fake? Too "clean" or "glossy," I really thought it was CG...Too much noise reduction?

WHAT!?!?!? No 3D version? tsk tsk.

hehehehehe :)

hehe, one could only imagine how this would look in 3d on a 10' wall.... then again the way Red is going we probably won't have to imagine it that much longer:-P

The Leicas are truly great. But an RPP set is the same price a one Leica lens.

One focus. ISO 800. No noise reduction.

Side note... when we shot the Phase back, we had to shoot ISO 100 (noise) and a long shutter speed. Car lights were streaked due to the long exposure.

Jim

Multiple focal points? or static focus?

... i would say,
it has definitely a look of its own ....
that we are not used to see ....
which is (to me) why this technology is ...

ELECTRIC AWESOMENESS IN BINS (!)

Truly mind blowing Jim - thanks for sharing this.

Didn't realise who Peter was until a few weeks ago, as I love his work.

The detail is just amazing in this shot and its graded, in my opinion, to perfection. Can't wait to see how Alchemy helps.

Please Jim, hurry to Stage 4 so I can get my EPIC and start shooting ;-)

Again, thanks for sharing.
