  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Personal attacks and death threats not worth a ban?

From Jim to all moderators you've constantly reminded people on the forums that personal attacks are not tolerated and such a posts will get you banned. How is it possible that personal attacks AND death threads don't get you banned?

That thread was locked so I'm sure the moderators read all messages before doing so. Why did they leave these comments unnoticed? After I read the thread I reported first of mr. Frenkels comments because it was straight out personal attack and it was deleted with one other comment from him:

Then I read the comment where mr. Frenkel threats me and I reported it and it was also deleted:

These are clearly serious offenses. How is this guy not yet banned? Is it "ok" to attack and threat people when it's done in the name of RED?

This is the first time I've reported anyone and I haven't done so even though I have received personal attacks and name calling before that also went unnoticed by the moderators.

this is the sort of thing that should be dealt with through PM's with moderators not in the open. As you are now attacking his work and image... and yes I felt him and the original poster(to which josh responded) were overly aggressive and disrespectful.

Sorry for all the trouble you may have received, honestly for the most part it's extremely passionate people, good people with a few bad apples thrown in, pretty much a microcosm for the rest of the world and life itself.
 
I don't see the death threat in there and I'm not defending any of this behavior.

However, let me ask the appropriate question. Have you tried PM'ing a moderator prior to creating this thread?

This wasnt a complaint. It was a personal attack. You may not like his responses to you, but you have attempted to reduce that person to your own opinions of the quality of his craft, as well as their personal life which you spent time investigating. It would be more valuable to bite your tongue than to try and destroy a person. Every forum on the internet works this way. Remember this is a 'real names' forum, and as easy as it was for you to find information on your internet enemy, its just as easy for others on this forum (or anyone with access to the internet) to deny you any industry work.

I reported these posts for moderators 1-2 days ago. And if I remember right I did ask them why the threat was not ban worthy.

Complaint with a joke in the end. Not surprised that some people find that joke worse thing than the threats I received.

I didn't reply him once in that thread.

If someone threats me or my family of course I will take a look who the guy is.

He's not my enemy. I don't remember having any conversations with him here at all. He just came and attacked me.
 
Just curious, when you report a post on this forum a mod is immediately notified, but is there a three strike policy on banning or is it on a case by case basis?

And some times, Josh, it's best to walk away. Even if it is as easy as clicking on a signature and reposting images from the link, it's unnecessary and unpleasant.

If I told you first to shove your camera lenses up your ass and then told you that you should change your name and go to withness protection program, all this while clearly being very angry towards you (still some angry posts by him on the last pages), you wouldn't consider that a death threat?

Again, I'm not defending any this. What's happening here or what's happened there. Best to contact the mods. Which I'll do for you.
 
not really but that is just me. A death threat is a real thing(trust me I know), suggesting someone has anything up their but is a rather normal thing(many a person apparently has this same issue but with sticks). The witness protection comment was about you (supposedly) being embarrassed by your portrayal of yourself here and thus would never return and have change your name to work in this business again.... though that's just me it's really between you and the mods as they are the one's who decides what is or is not ban worthy.

This thread will not help you with people like this, it will only give them more fuel, I would go with the others and say just walk away from this one.

I can't find a death threat there either, just some quirky, easily misunderstood, erm, humor? I couldn't find the posts that you had screenshots of, so my best guess is that they were removed by one of the admins. This was just around New Year's and we tend to have a life outside of reduser.

There is no three-strikes policy. Blatant attacks give an instant unlimited ban. Lighter misbehaviours will either get a PM from one of us and/or a temporary ban.

There is no chance for us mods to read everything that is posted here, so please do use the
report.gif
button to alert us, and don't wait til it gets out of hand. I don't like how in the past few months the netiquette has eroded. Some people think it is o.k. to make "funny" suggestions about other's credibility, or attack prominent figures and make unsubstantiated implications about their motivation. Not o.k.

When reporting, it is best to point us to a specific post. When we get posts about a thread that is several pages long, we often just skim through it to see if there is something obviously offensive.

When reporting, an alert is sent out to all mods and admins. Whoever happens to be online first, will look at it. We are all different people and might react differently to different posts.

No matter how much wrongdoed you feel, does not entitle you to attack another's reduser credibility. I would ask you to remove those references from your OP. Thanks.

Edit: Very rarely do I edit other people's post (about once a year), but I did remove the offending part from your op.

Personal attacks are told to be instant ban here by moderators and Jim many times, not in this case though and I don't know who was the moderator viewing my reports.

Also very happy to see another poster who has nothing to say against the person who attacked and threated me, but instead you blaim me for two silly pictures.
 
We moderators all get email notifications about posts that need to be looked at, but whichever moderator deals with it first often will delete the offending post, let's say, and therefore by the time another moderator clicks on the link, the post is gone, so it's not like we all know the seriousness of the situation, we assume it's been taken care of whatever it was.

Often deleting posts is a first step, figuring that the person who got his post deleted would get the message, so to speak, that he was out of line. Generally it takes a pattern of offensiveness rather than a single post to get someone banned, but obviously there would be exceptions if the offense is bad enough. But it's not like we all get together and vote on this sort of stuff on a regular basis.

People are never happy either when a forum is heavily moderated or lightly moderated.

I'm not sure you understand what witness protection is for.

I will live him alone you can be sure. Don't want nothing to do with him anymore.
 
Come on man, really. This is a forum, settle down. People get out of hand and say stuff they don't mean. Take 10 deep breaths and chill bro. Your gonna be the one who is known as the guy who went wacko over a few silly posts. Just chill.
