NEW RED TECH FOR 2012 I WOULD LIKE TO (WE MIGHT) SEE
Let me first make it clear this is all guess-work and wishful thinking. I hope to see the following coming out this year.
RED-RAY, I think we might see this at NAB.
RED PRO ANAMORPHIC LENSES! The mode is enabled in the camera, RED is due for new lenses and some thoughts went through my head potential motorized autofocus glass. But then I realized with the mode on the EPIC, the potential for the Scarlet to have this feature enabled in Dragon as well, I think we might see this announcement at NAB. It does make sense. New sensor would give Scarlet 5K 24FPS no doubt about it. HDRX is still a little iffy on the Scarlet IMHO.
PRO-REZ module. I think this is a given. I know I have been holding out on getting a different one because well. Super loyal to the brand but also, RED knows their tech better than anyone else and will certainly have some thing built in others haven't thought about -- future proof.
Dragon sensor. What will this thing actually be. Might be 6K, 8K, or 9K. What's realistic is probably 6K but RED always destroys expectations so I will be expecting 6 but happily surprised if it's 9.
I also believe that secretly Scarlet fixed is not dead. I believe it's unveiling will be at NAB with a Dragon sensor built in. The needed more fuel to deal with the power in that little machine and let's see what happens. It's my belief that nobody puts that kind of money into something only to see it fizzle away. There is a market for this machine and with the Nikon and Canon out or coming out, this thing will kill both of them instantly. Motion on RED just looks better, like amazing.
120 FPS (96FF) @ 6K, 300 FPS @ 5K, 500 FPS @ 4K, 1000 FPS @ 2K. Those numbers might be off and I could be called crazy but the Epic is a powerful machine. I believe it has more horses in there. Especially with the new heat sink and sensor.
Increased HDRX in higher frame-rates with good compression.
NEW LENSES -- of some sort. It could be that we need new mounts, but more then that, we might need new larger glass. Maybe not, but who knows what 2012 will bring.
Assuming we stay with manuel glass with the designs of the RedMote Pro on the web, I can't help but wonder if we will see a follow focus motor which can be remotely controlled by the upgraded RedMote -- kinda makes sense to me.
Could we possibly see a new touch screen? Certainly the Red Projector excites me. I will probably convert my living room into a movie room/photo studio.
The hand-wheel. I want one so bad.
Bottom handled and enabled still shooting. All the signs exist under the camera and handle we know it's coming just a matter of when.
The secret juice Jarred drinks... I need some. I haven't met anyone able to do what he does, stay on top of everything and still maintain their sanity. Dealing with school and brain surgery in May I would love a whatever he drinks/eat.
Last thing is inspiration, and I have been trying to share it with any and everyone I meet. I have not been disappointed at all and I find myself needing to pay back RED, Jarred, Jim, and the whole Bomb Squad team for all the work they put in trying to keep our asses happy.
Let me re-state, this is a guess and wish-list of sorts, I have no idea how much if any of this will happen.
Best Paul
