From what I read in the forums here and there, Light Iron making a new color science for a Red sensor means that Red CS was not good enough, like an admission of weakness for many guys.
Remember that Light Iron is owned by Panavision, so we should judge them by image quality and take other comments with a pinch.
A question, is the image component of the raw files the same between Weapon and DLX? Encryption and flags aside.
We don't know how much help Red gave Panavision, nor if any further developments are a two way street.
This particular point is not of much importance to Panavision rental users but it is to those who own Red equipment.
I'm struggling to see Panavision altering raw processing as it would have to be in line with potential sensor output upgrades from Red or otherwise risk being left behind.
Comparative image quality aside (as it is unknown) , the Panavision form factor, branded OLPF and recording media is enough to keep the brand distinct.
