I revived my RED 18-50mm T3 Metric on Dec 23 which I paid $6500 and now it's only $3995 when I asked for price adjustment the bomb squad refuse. The lens still it the original package and not sure what to do. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Step up program? Not that I am aware of.

Sorry, Abdelhay, the price reduction went into effect when Jim posted it and it is not retroactive to sales prior to the reduction.

Receive it on Dec 23, 2009 (about 18 days ago) and guess what I did not test my Red one yet as I don't have the batteries yet :(

Its unfortunate, but thats the way of things.......... bad timing I'm afraid.

We've got an old 300mm that Id love to trade for the Pro 300mm!!

What are you talking about? I thought Brent's answer was definitive. What are we missing?

I think Roberto was refering to this quote of Jim's:

We are giving a months heads up... 30 days longer than Apple! I bought 3 more G4 towers one week before the new G5's were announced. Ouch.

Jim

Though I'm not sure that benefits Abdelhay.

At the time you purchased it, you thought the price was fair. You could have bought a mint used one for under $4000 if you were looking to save money. Prices go up & down, that is life.

I agree with you, someone was willing to sell me 18-50, just for $3000.00 couple of months ago.

Sure - a deal is a deal - but I have to admit that I understand his frustration.

We waited for our first 18-50mm for about six months. The first two lenses we got were so flawed we had to send them back - and then waited for another four months.
Already one year later a new and much better wide angle comes out which cuts the market value of our lens by 50%.

This policy is going to burn out a lot of people. For the better or worse we shall see.

Such is life and commerce.

Just bad timing, Abdelhay. Product cycles have shortened in the new digital cinema market. I own an imperial version of the lens and I am very happy with it. To the degree that the new one is better, I cannot answer, but I'm sure that only the most trained and experienced professional will be able to gauge the difference-- I assure you the audience will never know. My only advice for next time is buy early in the product cycle and sell early before the next iteration.

It is still a great lens. It will do things master primes, optimos and cookes won't. I don't leave home without it.

Its a fantastic lens. Mine has fooled three separate DI Colorists into thinking it was an Ultra prime. On two jobs-High end commercial jobs, mind you, Ultra Primes were available to the DP, but he preferred the Red 18-50mm! Go figure. I won't ever sell my first generation Red zoom. But I might rent the new one to check it out.

Do you have any Frame Grabs you could share ? I'd love to compare Red 18-50mm to an Ultra Prime. Thanks

The only way it would make sense is if I shot the same subject under the same lighting at the same focal length. Under an apples to apples comparison, I doubt my very good lens (in which I am very pleased) would hold up to intense scrutiny. But it held its own, on its own. Have you shot with it before?
