  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

OSEE Monitor Group Buy - New Kits!!

I found another software bug. When I change the calibration of the monitor by going into calibration menu and changing the RBG gain to what I want it to be, then come out of the menu and back to the monitor mode and toggle focus assist on and off the colour reverts back to default . This is on D65 calibration mode. I haven't tried any others. Also when i change pages like go from page 1 to 2 the calibration reverts back to default. Whats even weirder is when i go and check the RGB gain settings after it reverts to default, the numbers in the RGB gain do not change at all....its only the colour that's changed. if I now change the setting even by 1 then the colour changes BACK to what I set...ie the colour I wanted.

So in essence it's not remembering the info when certain tools are toggled.

The interesting thing is...some of these bugs remind me of when i just got my small hd 502. The colour ones at least, and this software is very similar.

Still i'm enjoying the monitor thus far...Osee just need to work out these kinks

Had the same issues today on set with the monitor for the first time......

Hey Steve, you also experience the weird waveform bug I have in the video I uploaded? I'm using this with my blackmagic cinema camera btw...not a RED. So i don't know if that makes a difference.

Darren, didn't get that deep into it.....I'll try and do some testing with it today now that I have a manual.

So after 3 days of testing this

Pros
1. Good resolution and very nice screen

2. Daylight viewable in direct sunlight on brightest setting, however needs anti glare screen.

3. Really like the included dtap cable having threads on the barrel connector side so it cannot be pulled out. I use a canon dummy battery to D tap anyway but its good to have as back up. I like that the battery plate also has locks for the battery so you need to push a button to release.
4. Most colour accurate on D65 setting based on the footage I see in Resolve.

5. Solid construction

6. The quick toggle buttons on the side are very nice to have especially the brightness control

7. I like that the UI is similar to my smallhd 502

Cons/bugs
1. The calibration issue of it not remembering the settings I mentioned before

2. Waveform pulsating/shaking making it hard to read.

3. Joystick issue ...sometimes I cannot get into/access the calibration menu. Pushing down on the joystick does nothing and sometimes I have to push it down multiple times ...over twenty times already. Its crazy. Sometimes it just won't allow me to get in at all. Also sometimes when in the "Look" menu i cannot access it by pushing the joystick to the right. The both issues seem connected though as they will happen at the same time ie I cannot access both. This only happens trying to get into calibration and Look menu sometimes and is no problem for any of the other settings. To remedy this I have to turn off the device and turn it back on and that only works sometimes. It's clearly a software issue since the other settings the joystick responds quite fine.

4. Focus assist levels 1-5 does nothing in my opinion. It would be good if the focus assist levels were more evenly distributed. As it stands now ...only 6 and above does anything.

5. It would be good to have an IRE chart/key that shows the corresponding colour for the false colour settings and be able to toggle it on and off. I think my small hd 502 does that, or my zacuto gratical...one of them.

Overall I really like it so far...the joystick issue and waveform being the biggest pain in the ass right now. Joystick more than waveform. I did a factory reset and the Joystick issue was gone for a whole day...then it came back -_- .

I'll continue testing it as I don't want any gotchas on set. I'll email Thom a list of feedback after I have it for about two weeks.

Just had to mention Thom has been very attentive during this whole process and excellent customer support so far in my case.

Update on the focus assist info I said. When viewing the image with a contrasty LUT the focus assist is better. Previously I said 1-5 were basically useless but id say with a contrasty LUT 4-10 is usable. However what ive done is use the focus assist with a low level of peaking like about 2, to give the focus assist something more to grab on to.

When the focus assist is activated though it changes the exposure and colour of the image slightly so that's a bug.

Hey Bob, I can bring mine over anytime and compare if you want. I haven't used SDI yet cause I don't have a cable.

Greetings HCM700 Owners

Please download and install the new firmware version 0.0.6 from the downloads—videos.html page of the OSEEEDIRECT.Com website. On the bottom left of the page right click and download the linked file.

The update improves some refresh issues encountered when changing “My Sets” and has a slight tweek up on RGB Gain.

It now retains the calibration settings when you change it and focus assist doesn't change the exposure anymore...good stuff.

However after this update the joystick is a complete mess in the look menu. I can hardly access anything. Only after numerous failed attempts of trying I finally get in. When I do get in its the same process each level down. Numerous pushing of the joystick yielding nothing. Essentially I cannot add a 3d lut now because of it...or if i eventually get to add a lut its a hella frustrating process and very time consuming.I even get stuck down there in the lower levels sometimes because neither the joystick nor the back button work for me to get out so i resort to turning off the monitor.

I reached out to Thom for you...don't know why you are having all these issues. I think he's gonna try and get you a new unit asap.

A little update. The monitor is suddenly working much better now. However it still doesn't respond sometimes. I'll watch it over the next couple days and see. Thom has also offered me a replacement. So based on my tests over these couple days I may take him up on it.
