  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Optitron and Canon L glass

Yes we are absolutely commited to Nikon mount.
But the motors for PL lenses are starting to look very tempting ;)

The OptiTron is not that big- if you've used the preston fiz you won't be surprised.
Having said that- NAB is coming....
I have to say it looks way bigger in the pictures than it is in real life. Size is fine in my opinion. Too small is not a good thing neither. And it fits well on rods.

Thank you Nils,
Have you tried the back focus procedure?

Hi Jacek,
not yet, I've been shooting all the week with my Epic on a scorpio crane, so I went back to the Red Canon mount and my good old Bartech wireless FF for this one... Hopefully I won't have to do that anymore as soon as your wireless kit is available. ;)

Thank you for your detailed answer. The procedure you describe is indeed what I had in mind.
Only thing is, the rental facilities are usually equipped to deal with PL lenses and mounts, but not with Canon lenses...

Also, when you say "shim as needed", well, from what I've gathered, most of Canon's recent zooms do no use shims for collimation...

http://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2013/01/24-70mm-f2-8-lens-teardown-comparison
"There’s not much to show with the Canon bayonet mount. There are no shims. Canon bayonet mounts come in various thicknesses, so rather than shimming they simply choose the correct thickness mount when they assemble the lens."

So, how and where do you collimate a Canon lens ?

JAcek how do we go about renting one before we buy it?....and....your website really needs updated lol ;)... None of your newer products for Epic are listed. It's a shame to not show such genius and useful accessories on your website :)

:thumbsup:Sorry we are out of our demos now.
As far as the web site - yes we are going through a major revamp.
However 100% of our resources are on the product now. We ARE ALL about the product. This is our prerogative.
There are many companies , even on this board, with pretty web sites and vapor ware. Would you prefer that?
You can always contact us and you'll get the response. Most likely from me. Since I'm the creator of all our products- I'm most competent to answer your questions about it.
When I started in this industry it was all about the competence. Not so much anymore- and- I've watched it slide...

Can you say bow much extra does the device extend the full range of focus? a lap, a lap and a half?
We remap by default every lens to the maximum rotation of the focus knob - over 300 degrees.
But that can be expanded further with the "range" button- you can have 1ft (or 1cm) of focus travel expanded to maximum knob rotation. With 1 button in 5 seconds.. your choice...

The wireless receivers are getting close...:yesnod:

OK new batch is getting finished.
These will most likely ship with the wireless if desired...

NAB is over. Where you showing a smaller version?
What about uploading some infos on your site? Maybe the newer, still missing, video.
Cheers

Thank you Chris,
You are very kind to take time off your extremely busy schedule to post here.
Much appreciated.
Let me answer some questions:
Yes the marking rings are always good once marked. In fact they are good across all properly functioning copies of the same lens. So far...
The unit weights about 14 oz (400g) without battery and about 1 lb 5 oz (600g) with the battery setup. The battery should last easily a day+ of shooting.
It's all machined aluminum hence the weight.
The size is about the same as a single channel Preston unit.

We did supply a simple rod mounting bracket with rosette clamp on.
here is a link to more detailed video. https://vimeo.com/53544495
We are reshooting it given the recent feedback to show more of smooth focus pulls, mounting options, etc..

are you thinking of selling pre-marked with distance wheels? I'd buy some. There are only maybe 8 lenses that everybody uses - you coudl do it really well and have a nice engraved wheel I coudl put in my case along with the lenses.

BTW - Optitron ROCKS -

What is this device? Website is lacking & can't find even a basic spec list. Wireless FF?

Yes OptiTron Is a wired or wireless focus and iris controller - with a TWIST. The twist is that it does not need motors to control Canon (still) lenses..

Hi Jacek,

Your product sounds great. However it would nice to have some more info available as I think everyone is desperate for more specs, pictures, videos.

Realise your time must be sucked up in development but I'm sure a Reduser would happily develop some online content with some product love.
I guarantee some great online videos would have your units sold out.

thanks and cheers
wes
