Actually to be accurate, RED said the cost of upgrading the Scarlet was more than $6000 but less than the cost of the body which was ~10K.

Please stop calling the Scarlet a crippled camera. It is a very powerful camera.
At the time.... Perhaps the 18+ stops of potential range means the internal architecture has to change to 24bit, and thus a whole new asic system is necessary. And beyond the 16bits of the current system. They seem suprised at its performance, i know they were expecting 15+ stops, but the ability to process 18-20 with any accuracy needs much more.
This means a more expensive upgrade, that the chips in a scarlet could never do. Hell a current epic attached to a dragon would only be able to handle 15stops with its 14 bit internal architecture.
Things changed, and i think all of us would prefer the system be optimized for the new spec instead of letting much of it go.
Can't this person just go away? He keeps popping up in threads out of nowhere stirring up sh$8. I know this is a public forum but Jesus lets keep it on topic.
I have nothing to prove to you Josh. If you've missed things on your own that is fine. I'm not going to scroll through 20 pages of information to tell you things other posters have already verified are true. I saw and read the posts to stay informed. You coming here to push other brands and be the cool guy who tries to call out members who actually have RED's and have been here even longer than yourself is getting old.One years later when the specs were actually announced they were same for both cameras: http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?77169-Dragon

*It was said, the Scarlet upgrade would cost more to get into Dragon.
*It was said that the Scarlet upgrade would follow after the Epics were upgraded.
*It was also said that it would cost less the the purchase of a new body.
If you can't find it, i'm sure their are 20 other posters who would back up those points in a heart beat.
And with that the Specs weren't the same for both cameras. That was the upgrade for the Epic, read on and you'll say they don't want to say anything about what it'll be for the Scarlet until they've full solved it for the Epic...
I'm with you Timur. The direction the Epic Dragon is headed is groundbreaking. It's rare throwing a stone in the distance and then surpassing all expectations. My investment in RED wasn't contingent on future proofing. It was relevant to the jobs I was landing. It didn't take long before I saw the merits of shooting 4K to trickle into everything I did. The future is rapidly changing and it's wise to look at what you need now and capitalize on it. I'm glad RED is throwing that rock further and harder now because the ride is so much more exciting. Specs change, so does life. No point dwelling on it. I was so close to upgrading to epic just a month ago. I guess I'll just hold out for the Epic Dragon now. Happy shooting.
