  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

OK Redmote.... I dont like you... you dont like me...

I had high hopes with the last firmware update - and it worked fine until about launch break. Then it locked up, took control of the cam to start stop erratically, and just generally dropped signal. I shoot mostly in a small kitchen studio with no RF miss / lavs. The REDMote is great when it works because the camera lives mostly on a jib (for easy set-up) and it allows start stop without that slight movement from touching the cam.

My redmote worked well enough on my Scarlet, but had a range of like 15 feet with my Epic. Same thing this weekend borrowing a friends Redmote. Good god...just so horrible.

My Redmote works excellently with my Scarlet, but I've been told by many an assistant that mine is the only one they've ever used that has worked. I like it even more now that I have the Paralinx P-Tap to USB F cables to keep it powering all day. Of course, when it hiccups, I'm always happy that I have my side handle, which is the only interface that I've used that's never failed me.

We must've gotten lucky with our REDmote.... aside from the (very) occasional hiccup it consistently holds a connection getting up to pretty decent distances (the other day I was start/stopping the camera from 50ft away through a couple of walls - got down to one bar of reception but still worked fine and held connection all day)

Mine just recently worked well with someone else's camera. With my camera, not so much. It usually stays at home.
Meanwhile I can monitor my gopro , change its settings and start/stop it from my iPhone. Go figure. The redmote needs to be burned with fire and never be spoken of again.

Just to throw in another note; at the beginning it was totally useless for me - not more then like 2-3 meters actual range before dropping the signal etc. etc. Not suited for production whatsoever…

Then I bought the PLC Range Extender antenna and it was like a total change to the opposite, positive direction!
Very good range, even indoors - totally useable now (after being paired properly at least)…

I don't know why but it seems like they've removed it from their store? Anybody knows a reason?
Here's a review; http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?78444-PLC-Electronics-Redmote-Range-Extender-Test-Review

You can still find the manual over here; http://www.plcelectronicsolutions.c...der for Red Epic(tm) Install Instructions.pdf

One of the best 3rd Party EPIC accessory we ever bought (together with the ProLock Nikon Mount and the VF V-Mount Plate)! :)

My redmote NEVER gets used. Cannot hold a connection. Would be interested in the PLC antenna if it was still available. Looks like I missed it. I really wanted to use the redmote when it came out but in production it just never worked reliably enough.

I know this myself; NEVER used it "undocked" until I fixed it the 3rd party way with the range extender...

Anyways; if you gon only a few feet range before signal loss I'd drop your Bomb Rep a note about it; ideally with a picture of your built-in antenna (there's an old and a new version, if I remember correctly you can spot it pretty easily depending on the shield-plate, I have to look up the thread for it tho - this has been discussed here before, including exchange antenna-upgrades from RED for self-assembly and info to obtain it)...

This past week it was unreliable, tried using the exposure toggle shortcut and the focus assist buttons and sometimes they did, other times they didn't... frustrating when your under pressure to help the CO out.
