Preachin' to the choir...
:w00t:

LOL

HALLELUJAH, and the Lord allowed the RED1 to be sent DOWN FROM HEAVEN, and they who touched it were indeed blessed, But their was a bretheren, which at that time they knew not of as of yet. And this bretheren was named EPIC, who himself had a child and he named him Scarlet, and all was good in the Land of Jannard. And so they went to and fro, slaying their enemies with resolutions of 3K, 4K and 5K, and the Lord continued to bless them and multiply their seed.

OK...

When religious analogies start getting thrown around, isn't that the point at time to close a thread, ahhahahahaha.

Reminds me of those late night college parties... kegs gotten low, people have thinned out... and somebodies always trying to take it into that over-arching connection of everything.

Seriously though, gotta love the:

"Only they who were chosen can bare that which is sacred in the land, and they have been numbered"

hahahahahhahha (number 1055) : - )

Any chance of seeing some 2/3" fixed footage come the 30th? :)

Cheers to the beautiful Bamberg (I count to shoot with a Scarlet in your town to begin next summer) and thanks for the link.

Ted Schilowitz is a perfect RED's ambassador. Nice to see his enthusiasm. We should be able to see more videos with.

E. :-)

Cheers back, mate! PM me when you are around or need help with anything! Also bring your RED1! :)

About the price: sure it will be up a little (Jim was talking about a mild increase) but at least it doesn't seem to be enough to stop Ted from naming the old prices as a reference. It's all speculation of course but I sure love listening to Ted :)

Warrenty

Warrenty

do you mean all your existing accessories or are you talking about new accessories you purchase?

No just the new one's that come with epic, upgrade stage 2/3. that would be crazy for the old stuff to reset, but then again some of the stuff the red team offers is a little crazy :) (in a good way)

Another quick questions about the scarlet, maybe this is he wrong forum, so please move this if needed.

On the schematic with the 3D rig for the scarlet bodies, what is the closest interocular distance that can be made when shooting in parallel?

Hey Jarred,

was just discussing the possibility of using third party Flashes such as the Nikon or Canon Speed lights such as the 580EX II E-TTL, for High Speed Sync Flash shooting, and didn't recall or read about it, if this was possible with the use of the Pocket Wizards, particularly the new TT1 and TT5 units together with the Epic in Photo mode, any word?

I do recall reading about you posting a third party Shoe mount for the Epic.

This is for those like myself that have half dozen or more TT5's and Flash units to go with it :-), for those shoots on the go!!

Thanks

He said in the past there was a cord sync socket. That should work.

Thanks Mitch I remember that as well, with the possibility of mounting a Third party Shoe mount adapter to the Camera, but was not sure if this will allow the use of the Canon Speedlights.

Firstly Gibby,

I really appreciate all your thoughts in this and your many posts throughout this and other threads on these forums. Not only are you very generous with your sharing of knowledge and experience but you are just so very good at sharing it clearly and concisely.

To everyone else, especially those at Red who read this,

I like many of the remaining posting lurkers in this thread am looking on from the Oct 30th announcements to the November 30th ones as I am a prospective Scarlet customer. I have to say to the people at Red that I am very excited, think what they are doing is brilliant, revolutionary and I would like to thank them all for it and encourage them on. I am very excited about the updated/increased specs and all the new modules being announced. Also very glad to see an announcement thread and separate comment thread - makes it a little easier to get to the info.

Gunner.jpg

I like the look of the gunner as I see myself mostly using my Scarlet for highly mobile handheld documentary EFP work. It sort of looks like my old Canon 1040XLS super 8 camera for ergonomics, though I wonder about the built in mic option. Where do you fit the windjammer? Wont the shell around the mic shown cause handling noise, especially when the handle is attached? Obviously a stereo mic but what knd of pickup pattern? I do hope the handle has a number of controls on it like Gibby suggests, especially thre servo zoom rocker, but also push autofocus, rec start stop, and controls to switch the lens barrel function on the fixed 2/3".

EpicShoulder.jpg

I am also super glad to see the full shoulder rig render above, this is the setup I see as most comfortable for extended handheld shooting but the handgrips don't seem to have any controls so the ones shown are no good for a single cameraman EFP setup. Presumably there will be a handgrip available with controls like the ones suggested for the gunner which can be used in a full shoulder rig configuration?

Also, very few have talked about the 2/3" without the fixed lens. This is understandable given the reported quality of the 8x fixed lens and it's interesting control innovations and OLED display and such. But for those needing extra flexibility with lenses I would hope that the 2/3" scarlet body comes with a standard 2/3" B4 mount as a base option so it can be used with the many broadcast lenses out there. I would also hope that it comes with the standard connectors for servo zoom and autofocus operation of these lenses, but this hasn't been mentioned. It would be even better if you could use the advanced autofocus, tracking and touchscreen functions available on the fixed lens version to control these B4 mount lenses. If this is not possible then perhaps Red are going to announce some nice zoom lenses of their own to add to their mini prime range which will support all these functions? Or perhaps the gunner can have servos fixed to it to replace the standard B4 grip ones and enable all these nice extra functions?

Finally. AudioI/O. Very glad to see that the mini connectors will carry balanced audio signals and provide phantom power- guess I will need to get some exotic new cables to connect to them. For me having only 2 input channels on the brain is a shame as the I/O modules add a significant cost to the camera - though of course you are getting a fantastically well specified camera at an unbeatable price I have a very limited budget for extras. I would really normally be using a couple of wireless lavs plus an onboard mic for sound so I would need 3/4 channels. As others have voiced it would be nice to see a cheaper audio I/O module that just gives 4 XLR inputs + maybe a timecode I/O, would be nice if it also had some physical pan/ level controls or constant display so that when you work with a sound guy he can check and set the levels and make sure they haven't been altered by someone else whilst he stands by your side. It would also be great for EFP if there were an onboard compressor and limiter to avoid clipping and push button auto gain control to reset levels whilst filming as you move between environments as a single person shooter.
:dreamin:...

All of the above considered I am eagerly awaiting the Nov 30th announcement and love what you guys at Red are doing. I just had a friend take out a huge loan for an EX1 setup and I'm thinking they will be so jealous when they see my Scarlet next year... Perhaps it would be cruel to show them..

P.S. I am a long time lurker and rare poster on these forums, remaining in a continued state of excitement and salivation as more and more details of these beautiful new cameras come to light. I have never had a direct answer to my questions or concerns expressed so far on these forums. I may have not quite got the forum etiquette quite down pat yet. If not please forgive me.
Also sorry for the overly long post. I don't get out often enough...(probably why no one responds to my posts - too long to bother reading)

You can surely fire them but no ettl. And if you hotshoe radiopoppers instead of PWs you can HS sync a lot of flashes, just a matter of how long their longest pop pops.

Great shot Paolo, I see you are enjoying those Poppers :)

Well sure wish to see the MiniTT1/FlexTT5 combination work on the Epic as I like them much better then the Poppers.

But at the end of the day will have to use what will work :), just hate to have to sale half dozen of PW TT5's and the TT1.

Pws are a different class but radiopoppers are a little more open source for now.
