We are trying to make everyone happy... that's why this is such a difficult trick!

Jim

I was in a remote village without internet all last week and now having read all 1384 posts now feel like J. Swift's Gulliver, coughed up by the sea, face in the sand on the island of infinite camera possibilities.

Aes digital audio in ? OLED lens scales ? active Nikon and Canon ? touch screen focus ? motion sensors ? 1.8" SSD ? 100 freaking fps @ 5k ? where the fuck am I, and if this is actually a dream please don't wake me up.

Red has seriously exceeded my expectations. Exciting times ahead.

Yup, the future is arriving fast Matt...:)

Options, options, and more options...cool stuff eh!

That is by so very far the most Bad A%$#@ Lens design I ever got my eyes on, and looking so forward to get my hands on too :001_tt1:

Really? I thought "badass" involved metal... Did I miss the sarcasm tags?
Actually, this pic of the 8x-fixed lens looks like your standard consumer camcorder lens assembly, so not sexy at all (apart from the gearing), but it tells me that RED is being really serious in making this the most affordable camera, while still putting in all the good stuff, like glass elements similar in quality to what they put into the RPPs, REDCODE and the mysterium sensor, that actually makes the pretty pictures we all want from it. And it is now abundantly clear why it was not feasable to put all this into a interchangeable lens for a similar price. But then again, that's where the "mild price increase" came from.
Can't wait for the scarlet-2/3rds vs F23 shootout....

The F23 is a beautiful piece of kit will be interesting how it stands up to it. It think though to make it a fair test it would be better to use the 2/3" cinema and use the same digi-primes on both. RED haven't mentioned releasing a B4 mount for a while...if they ever did...i get muddled between hearsay and fact sometimes.

No Matthias, no sarcasm Tags, here.

I was been very serious!

The lens design is just so clean is beautiful, built what is Bad A$#@! to me is the Technological Design, and the way this lens operates, I'm very much for the new and the futuristic looking and well designed Tools in anything I use, and this lens is clearly one of those Tools which fits in my real of things I love come to the market.

As far as Metal design, I actually quite dislike the all Metallic lens , such as those I use in MF, as they are very noisy when operated in AF do to the friction of the Metal components, excellent quality optics, but for me is time to move on, and The RPP's and new RPZ represent what I want from a lens, now this new 8x fixed lens of the Scarlet, and its completely new approach in Design and Operation, is something I just can't wait to put my hands on!!

...or rather use 9 Red Ones (to even the price of 1 F23) that are available and a fact.

please please please Jim, would be amazing if you release details on the scarlet STEREOSCOPIC on the 30th. I am about to be made redundant and have earmarked my payout on this but I need to Know all the details soon. I guess I'll have to freelance until some info does come out but the timing for me would be amazing if there is some info on this on the 30th.

cheers

Will the RED 1 get a nikon mount that has all the intelligent features of the new epic and scarlet mounts?

Stuff like that is possible to build.

Please do!

I mentioned a long time ago that it would be SICK to have a FF knob plug into the Red Mote... viola, Impero.

I suggested Red might be working on one when I saw the little holes on the side and top of the Red Mote. But Jim said Red wasn't working on one of those at the time. Then again that was days after the 3rd announcement.

Aside from that, I can't seem to find the answer, so can someone tell me if the Red Mote will have the touch screen and the touch focus capability or if it is in fact only something you'll be able to do on the new 5" monitor?

And, if it is only for the new monitor, can the 5" LCD be mounted on a Red Mote together with the FF knob idea, all at once, pretty please? Not sure how I'd hold the whole thing but it seems killer... :D Maybe the monitor can flip and be placed flat against the back of the Red Mote, then you can hold and use your thumb for the screen and pull with your other hand... hmmm.... small thumbs would make for a better focus toucher/puller... :D

I can't wait to see these things in person, and in action.

Thank you Red for all the hard work so far, and for all the work you are committed to already.

2 Thoughts about Auto focus when operating alone

2 Thoughts about Auto focus when operating alone

May one dream of face recognition?

And as an alternative to touch focus, have a small track ball (like this) included in the side bar / Gunner handle so that one could control the "point of interest" for the auto-focus while looking through the EVF.

You can rig up :) a stereo rig if you need to... Also I'm sure there are rigs available that will accomodate the scarlet or epic, just like they do for the One. I wouldn't get too stressed out about it - sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. Just be prepared... there's always a way.

nice name by the way...

I'm pretty sure that it's been said many times that the REDMOTE won't show video on it, so touch focus is pretty much out of the question on it.

A full year ago, here on RED User, RED mentioned their intention to make the 2x and wide converter for the fixed lens Scarlet. All things are subject to change, but IMO I couldn't imagine RED not following through an making these super-useful converters. IMO almost everyone who buys a fixed lens Scarlet would also buy those converters to exponentially expand the already broad utility of the camera.

Fun times ahead ...

Either or, I'd be happy. Be nice if it is something you can shoot through, instead of having to pop off to go medium in those quick moment. I've ruined a couple of cheetah and wilddog kills that way. Starts out far, and comes in close. Al things subject to change.

Funny all these people complaining about the price, and I keep saying to myself, I can't believe they are selling all of this for so cheap!

I hear ya...:)

Anyone who has been in the motion media business for any length of time is real familiar with overpriced, under-featured camera equipment. The performance to price ratio of RED One is stunning - but even more so for the new RED cameras, based solely on their proposed specifications. Of course, the specs need to be finalized, and the field testing done. The proof is in the testing, but IMO RED will hit home runs with these new cameras.

Hi Martin. Even if face recognition technology was used to recognise when a given shape or object appears in frame. So that, in rehearsal, you could tell it to "focus on this door, head, gun etc." when I select point 1, 2, or 3 and it would draw a box around the object like face recognition does and then track with that shape as it moves in the frame.

The technology to do all of this currently exists, just not all in the same product. I wish I could design a camera by cutting and pasting technology but I get the feeling Red might be doing just that with the Epic. I'm still digesting the ramifications of everything Red are including in this camera. The more I process it, the more excited I get.

I just bought an SXS card reader by Sony (for my EX3), and tried to use it to read one of my kensington adapters (a little cheat, so you don't have to buy overpriced sony sxs cards) and it seems sony has made it so it won't read the kensington. (my laptop reads it fine in the express card slot). It's crap like that that makes me respect Red for what they are doing. Sure they have to play the game at some point, but the vision is truly inspiring. If they didn't come along where would the independent be right now in this industry? I love my EX3, but when I look at the footage side by side with my Red -- ouch.
