I've watched a few games of the European Championship soccer on television, and noticed extreme slowmotions every now and then. Very cool indeed. These slowmo's definitely looked different from the rest of the broadcast of the game. Is it RED?

Cheers

Yeah, thought of the same thing. That looked like somewhere around 120 fps.
Red ? New Weisscam HS-2 ?

dont think so !
the workflow cant work that fast !

That is what I thought as well initially, Kreisky. But what if it's not replays that are shown the very second after the action? I think they sometimes show 'old' slowmotions, just because they look freakin' cool. You could see drops of sweat flying around after players hit the ball in such a detailed way, I don't think they can manage that with software and a regular broadcast camera.. Also, it had that cinematic look, with colors that looked RAW straight out of the cam.

The footage has cinema look ! no doubt !
They use DOF as well !

but how do they transfer it, cut it, render it out of RC in max 20 sec ?
but 15min could be possible !
I will take notes when Spain plays against Russia today !

PS: I would not like it if it is really RED footage !
I dont want people calling the RED "the perfect football broadcast camera" !
thats not a good step in point of view !

the different OB vans have either Sony HDC 3300 or Thomson LDK Kameras on their truck. there is still no comouter who can render the RED signal so fast that they can broadcast it.
maybe there are some phantoms on the road - there is a german company who is able to put this in a live broadcasting stream

Slow motion clips were broadcasted few minutes later (I don't remember whether it was 2-3 or more like 5-6 min. later). They were 3-4 sec. clips. I think it could be done, but it wouldn't be as practical for this purpose as with Sony or Thomson cams which Ludmux mentioned.

Its not RED !
lets talk about football !

the organges are amazing.......I love them !
Spain is very very hot...................

I really want to see:
Netherlands vs. Spain
Sweden vs. Germany

Spain rocked. Great game against Russia.

definitely not red

usually it's sony or similar super motion HD (slow motion) cameras which are capturing 3x faster than normal cameras (i am not sure how fast they are in NTSC areas) - in europe it's 150fps. check on google HDC 1500 or HDC 3300 sony cameras. images are usually recored on EVS devices/discs and instantly broadcasted if needed. one camera (HDC 3300) may serve as normal or superslow camera same time.

not sure about price range (do not quote me, please) but i think camera itself is around 250.000 $ without lenses, and evs system.

A few very good teams: Holland, Portugal, Spain, Croatia...

All very good, I bet that some of them will take the trophy.

Too bad that our lions couldn't qualify...

My money is on the Dutch. They are running through every other team hard. To crush Italy and France like they did was very impressive.

You gotta love seeing the French lose.
