If that tattoo is real, then it belongs to the schmuckiest dude I've ever encountered. That is just crying out for a cameo in a film! And we could have used him. We actually shot a scene in a tattoo parlor in "Works in Progress." We had to fake her tattoos with rub-ons, but they worked pretty well.

So not a complaint at all as I think the new camera specs are really incredible, (but I think it will be some time before cameras get into hands outside of the tiered options).

My bigger comment: I personally had wished that Red would have coalesced their efforts and technology to a different spot in the market. Something lower in the food chain, say an S35 scarlet with fewer options, for a target price of say 6-10K. I'm sure Red knows their business and where the best spot in the market is, I just can't help but think that there could have been more overall volume but still added features above the first gen Red, like resolution, chip size, and a few more frame rate options.

With a camera like that, it still would have easily outweighed anything else in the market in price or image quality. Plus it would have been appropriate for Hollywood or indie. Hell the Red One is good enough for Hollywood.

I could have swore that was where they were headed.

'Go on...show 'em'
'Nah'
'Jeez...just one more time!
No!
'Come on..we'll buy you a beer'.
'Okay, but this is gonna be the last, last time'.

Look on the barrel of the electronic lens. One of the focus marks is lit up, they are "backwards", and arranged in a nonstandard linear fashion.

The idea is the marks are an OLED screen that can be changed in any number of ways, from things as simple as metric/imperial, to adding focus markers digitally through the REDMOTE.

And I'm sure we'll get hacked firmware to watch Japanese television and create marriage proposal messages on it as well ;).

.

That is a pretty good summation... thanks Andy :)

RED GUNNER guess :)

I thought it would be pretty cool if the redgunner was a follow focus/iris control handle that when you pull it focuses to close up and when you push it focuses to infinity. If you twist the handle clock or counterclockwise you control the iris.

You could do all the basic actions needed to do when you run 'n' gun and still give support to the camera with both arms :)

But Jim wants the best camera in the world, for himself.

That brings some interesting possibilities into mind.

I think what is going to make RED the best in the future is not just ground breaking big tech but the hundreds of small options and enhancements that are brilliant for filmmakers/operators

OK, someone help me here. I think the RED GUNNER is the sexiest camera/rig I've ever seen. Reminds me of the hi-end Super 8 cameras that I lusted after as a younger man. By the time I could afford a Canon 1014-XLS, they stopped making them!

Anyway, back to my question. On the Gunner I assume it's a shoulder pad right under the viewfinder. So how does one place that on a shoulder and look through the viewfinder at the same time? I know the viewfinder flips up, but does it flip sideways too? Or, would you need to stick an LCD on it?

Damn straight! Thats what makes these programs so great. I may well be consciously misconstruing your point here. This is the best case scenario. Just like i don't want to be a pop corn salesman, i want to a cinematic artist. Why should the RED team just churn out the same tech other companies are doing...sticking with the fold.

I'd rather have quality and ingenuity over quantity economical.

The electronics industry is full of White Elephants, and equipment that promises things for marketablility (like a politician just before election), RED are showing that they are delivering what they promised.

'Redefining Cinema' is the values that RED are TRULY following (That is a large cinema chain's mission statement by the way...cough!!).

oops i missed that one.. too many posts :)

Dont forget as well.. one lens = Metric and Imperial. For some people that work/rent internationally, thats a pretty big point.

Lots of incredible things you can do once you make lens marks a non-fixed asset.

Displaying scrolling messages such as...
  • Don't touch!
  • Property of...
  • Bit more/bit less
  • or Play pong on the barrel of your lens

Martin,

it is not only Jarred that deletes posts, and we also delete positive ones.

The Complaint Thread is not buried away, it is right here: http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=37100

I've banned you for a day. Not to strangle criticism, but so you learn a bit how to behave. Don't pee on the carpet when you are invited into somebody's home.

I agree, the RED GUNNER configuration looks awesome! Since the RED body is fairly wide, it seems to me that the Bomb EVF, positioned as shown in the rendering, would be right about where it needs to be once it is raised up on it's hinge. Looking at it closely, it seems like the EVF might be mounted on a sideways slide mount, or a perforated plate with several mounting locations...at least I assume the lever that is visible is a locking device for such a mount.

Can't wait to see the RED GUNNER from a few different angles to figure out what all the mysterious bits and pieces are.
