Nope - I'm sorry, I think that's about the single ugliest (and by that I'm refering to the ergonomics) camera I've ever seen. If you are selling a fixed package, this should include the items required to hold it - even if you are using a tripod, you will want to pick it up sometimes, without attaching rails, or red gunners or whatever.
Look - I work with RED footage, so I know the camera will take amazing video. I just can't yet visualise using it myself, nor any of the TV cameramen I work with every day (and if you're not targeting them with the 2/3", who are you?)
Not trying to be negative - I'd like to hear why I'm wrong - clearly people have held and handled this, so I'd love to hear from them.
A special thank you for heated EVF! Few will comment, but it is a very cool trick!
Red listens!

But what about all the sharp angles on the nearside?
You know what - nevermind. It's late here and I've been working all weekend - so I'm just being cranky. I look forward to seeing all the other shots of it, and being proved wrong - apologies. Move along.
I know what you mean, but I don't think you or your cameramen will film with this cam holding it handheld on one handle mounted direct to the cam. Way to much unwanted motion. So you'd need something like a Tripod, a steadycam or some shouldermount to use it. And a Handle just to carry this thing around would just be at the wrong place all the time imho...
I wish the 2/3 would take 12MP stills (as that's the minimum I can use for my still photography work). Different strokes for different folks. I hate HDR imaging to a fault but I appreciate being given the option; I'm not going to begrudge RED for giving me options
Great work guys. Just wondering about the roll out plans, who gets what first and RED RAY/digital cinema compatability.
You guys rock![]()
Yeah I think it sort of looks like it'll NEED the bottom handle... rounding things off a bit and such...
Ah well... Still whoops the ass of any other camera I've seen at that price point... even if I do have to fork out extra for the bottom handle to make it more comfortable...
Hey there's an idea... A bottom handle with nothing in it. Just the empty shell...to help with the form factor... then we can choose to upgrade to a bottom handle that's got some extra capabilities or whatever... modularly.
Will Red have mass production Red Scarlet fixed in a reasonable supply to meet demand in June 2010?I can't agree. Sooner would be nice but this is very competitive pricing. The only thing that strikes me as overpriced is the RED Matte box, but I have a down on matte boxes anyway...I'm sure there will be affordable 3rd party rail/follow focus systems for the RED primes, and it may not even be necessary with the Fixed lens.
Certainly, the competition will have increased in 6 months time, but the $5k fixed lens package still sounds like a winner.
