November 30th Announcement Feedback

I've seen some threads that seem to imply Scarlet fixed might be released soon. But the only actual announced (and of course subject to change) release dates were Jan-Feb for the Red Ray pro. Have I just missed or overlooked something?

I'd like to point out that the price on the 2/3 scarlet interchangeable only increased $250 from what was announced a year ago (December 2, 2008). It bumped from 2500 to 2750. That's a very small increase, especially considering all the new features.

I always assumed the 8x fixed would be about a grand more than the interchangeable version, but if you think about it for the 4750 you're getting a lot for that extra 2k. Add up items on the accessory price list and see what you get for 2 grand. I think it's very reasonable. I just wish it was here quicker, but May/June isn't that far away. I want to see some samples now. :) And details on if there'll be a tattoo-type program on the scarlet.

Sad news. Now Scarlet fixed-lens is completely unaffordable for me! Nice idea to increase the cost by over 25% in this crap economy. Oh well, now I can safely move on without having to wonder if I might be able to afford one. Don't get me wrong, it's a brilliant camera, it's just not one I (and thousands of others) will be able to afford. Looks like students and low budget filmmakers (NOT PROS) will carry on Red-free. If you're a professional filmmaker (i.e. you make money with your films) you need not reply. I'm addressing those of us without deep pockets to afford such gear. Sad times indeed. Perhaps some day Jim will get back to that camera for the 'soccer moms' (i.e 'the rest of us').

i think i missed something? its pretty much the same price it always was reported to be isnt it ? im very broke believe me VERY broke and this price is awesome news for me, i was expecting it to be much more.

In the fixed lens scarlet kit how how is the redvolt battery connected to the camera?

Hi Jarred- any comments on timing?

Will Red have mass production Red Scarlet fixed in a reasonable supply to meet demand in June 2010?

I do agree for the money "today" the $5K package sounds good ... My concern is timing, and not being strung along by a manufacturer for another year... be it Red, Canon or Panasonic. Hence why I think Scarlet will likely be a late year rental for me while I buy a Canon to get work done all year 2010 ...

Actually there was a time when it was $3k for the 3K Scarlet.

I can understand why you hate HDR, as so much of it looks awful. However, that's because of awful tonemapping techniques that make great photos look like a kid's crayon picture. You can sleep well at night knowing there's no way I'd allow any HDR we do to look like that.

Dear Sir, I believe I owe you some good Whiskey. What's your poison? :)

the announcement feels more like a re-statement. there is just one number that caught my attention: $4750. good price for what you get.

Will there be a counterpart to the Redmote Pro? A motor that can go on rails and turn our beautiful primes? Or is this strictly an electronic lens motor feature?

Great work team RED ... but what's the focal length range and maximum aperture for the fixed ? ? ?
Looked everywhere ... or are these specs still a secret?
