Well said David.

This is going to be a multi-product announcement. Scarlet is a known. What is the unknown?

its so true... I have been charging and hot swapping for hours.. its insanely addictive module. EPIC going strong for hours and hours with no power downs.

Concert shooters are going to die with how easy this is. Add the SSD Module and shoot... FOREVER!

I think that unleashing EPIC 006 early this year was the biggest announcement. The working EPIC to their fist customer.

That, to me, was bigger than the original announcement.

75 to PJ
50 to Cameron
Those ones woke people in the industry up for sure.

David

The 1st will always be the biggest announcement to me. Without it there are no others. It was so far beyond what people thought was capable that everyone just laughed. Well, not everyone. It was the bugle call for a revolution, and we Redusers answered that call. Every announcement after that has only verified the importance of that very first one. With that said, this one appears to be on course for at least 2nd biggest Red announcement of all time :) Can't wait!

To me, the conceptual description and thw wow to do "it", whatever "it" was, is still the biggie.

The first real and practical biggie, was to go all raw. Dropping "video" capture all together

Sometimes I have guessed that that decission was a biproduct of anunfinnished and unreleased codec, but whatever the reason, that is what eventually set RED appart: Redcode.

And it is still the systens strength and achilles heel...
Seems, though - that the strength has outweighed its disadvantages , looking back 3 eventfull years...

Redcode is more important than the camera.

Until REDCODE there were 4k cameras. No camera became a practical shooting tool until the invention of REDcode. Making REDcode RAW is better than fresh sushi because the image container that is REDCODE is a digital film can.

5k raw in a tiny box was bigger than the baby brother Red One. The EPIC is a superstar. The RED one is a Star.

David

RED One started the revolution. None of the big companies did anything to react to that - they COULD but choose NOT to!!!. At the time they were not concerned with RED One's penetration and overall perception in the industry.
Now when EPIC (and even RED One) has taken the rightfull position in the industry, the biggies started to move. This clearly shows that biggies are controlling (slowing down) the advancement of technology and their highest priority is to suck out profit as long as the market allows it.
This is why my money will go to RED whatever others do. For all the options exiting in today's market, we can thank RED for. At least that my opinion.

Nov. 3rd will be very telling. It is all about the customer. We'll see who serves the customer best on Nov. 3rd.

Jim

OK, so Nov. 3rd is way more than just Camera and AKS announcements then...

That is the number after the recompilation of reduser. The real number is closer to 30,000. Nov. 2009.

Jim
Just for the sake of stats and numbers (because I'm into that kinda thing), the "online" statistic that the Reduser forums shows is the number of people who have been to the site in the last ~8 1/2 hours. I know it says "currently online," but that's bad verbiage and should be changed IMO. If the window was, say, 15 minutes, then "currently online" would be a bit more accurate.

30,000 people in the space of 8 hours is still highly respectable, but I think people do interpret the number wrong when they see "30,000 people currently online" at the bottom of the page. The easiest way to confirm this is simply to click the link that is married to the number of people online and then on that page sort by "Last Activity" in ascending order. Here's a quick link:

http://reduser.net/forum/online.php?order=asc&sort=time&pp=200&page=1

You'll see the timestamp of the person who has been online the longest in this "currently online" stat - which looks to be a period of almost exactly 8 hours and 20 minutes. I'm sure this could be reconfigured in the forum settings; just thought I'd put it out there since you have a major milestone approaching and you might want to see how many people are actually online at 6pm for the announcement itself. :)

November 3rd, I will be 'here.
Always and forever with the Red Team ;)

Any chance for the possibility of Epic-X stage 4 orders to be submitted on that day? :)

A lot of us would be hoping for that - who knows...

Ah, wait, Jim & Jarred know!

Hee hee hee

You guys are crazy. Scarlet will not be better than EPIC. Really? What are you smokin'?

If Canon can beat EPIC... God love them. We'll fold up our tent. Are you guys serious?

Jim

Scarlet + better than Epic = business suicide

Jim will ensure that Scarlet is the best it can be for the best price he can retail at than ensure RED continues to run for years to come.

If Canon beat EPIC, then I expect Jim will be re-looking at what he can do to improve it to make it better. Don't think Jim will fold up his tent - he's been looking for a fight for a while and if he gets it, then he'll be out all gums blazing. I don't think Jim has the "give up" gene!!!!!!

This is one battle, but the war WILL continue...

Scarlet + better than Epic = business suicide
Yeah, that wouldn't make any sense. I think we just get so much speculation around here that people dream of the moon sometimes.

What's going to be really interesting is where exactly Scarlet fits in and at what pricepoint. There was some great discussion about this on the RC podcast this week. Is it still a 2/3" chip camera? Is it now a S35 camera? 3K or 4K? These are all reasonable configurations that are below Epic spec (and surely things like framerates will be lower as well), but if you start pushing it up too much and it starts hitting the $12K-$15K price range then you lose a lot of the indie crowd for which I believe have been the hungriest for this product since it was announced. Features are awesome, but price is super important too. You already have the best digital cinema product (with the most features) available with the Epic... so how do you decide what to trim with the Scarlet? My guess is RED doesn't even know what the final specs are going to be. It's quite a game, but it sure is an exciting one.
