Steve, I only discovered the GH2 a few nights ago and was blown away, if I could off load my 7d for gh2 hacked I would. This footage here blew me away.

just so you know I dumped my 7D for the GH2 a month ago... and that hack in this video is old... go to vimeo, type in GOP1 and be prepared to be blown away

Don't mean to interrupt the GH2 lovefest but I think this thread was started by Jim talking about RED . . .

I Will definetly add a scarlt or two to my arsenal of RED cameras!
Can´t wait! I LOVE this company, I eat, breathe and live RED!

Guys? That GH2 footage looks like crap. Desaturated, no blacks, no whites, weird response curve, purple shadows. If you are happy with images like that you are probably wasting your time on Reduser. There are lots and lots of cameras that can make pictures like that. I would hope people here are looking for something better.

Jannard...the more I hear you talk about how amazing the Scarlet and its announce date will be, the more I worry that it will be blown way out of my price range. Please do not go breaking anyones hearts!! :hand:

Couldn't have said it better myself. All this hype is brilliant, but I do worry that I won't have what it takes to hit that 'place order' button when it is finally here. Oh how I hope it's within my range!

Hey... that's my GH2 clip! But, yea GOP1 is amazing. I'm doing some more stuff with GOP1 right now...

Still waiting for Scarlet though ... MUST... HAVE... RAW :yesnod: ...and more resolution for over-cranking.

That is intentional grading to push the colors. I happen to like tinted shadows... as well as allot of other people. Some of us here are trying to achieve an artistic look... not just a sterile, technically exposed, and saturated image. If I wanted that, I'd get an EX1 and be done with it. I like Red because you can do crazy things with the image. If you're not after this kind of thing... I would say that YOU'RE wasting your time here. Get a camcorder.

I'd also like to see some of your less-crappy work...

The trouble with all of this is a camera that genuinely performs as a DSMC product. That term, DSMC, was promoted by RED. You have two markets. Those that produce stills and need some motion and those that produce motion and need some stills. Neither preferred use of technology produces great for the other secondary medium. That is where EPIC should step in. EPIC produces a reasonable, though not great and by stills terms NOTHING to be excited about. Before all you die-hard RED fans tear me down in flames it produces a 14mb file as against some of the 100mb stills frames I am dealing with at the moment. Please do not even come forward with an attitude of it's good enough. To a stills photographer that's like saying to a film maker .264 codec is the best thing ever. Yes it's fine for somethings but when you are shooting to cover all print possibilities a 14Mb file is woefully inadequate. Equally before possibly another load of people shoot me down in flames do you have any idea how much money is spent in post to make RED still frames work in Vogue. I am firmly behind RED and it is the only technology to back in terms of a genuine DSMC capability. But does it genuinely exist at the moment, shot landscape (pulling a still from a movie to be blown up A4), no it does not.

As a stills photographer I believe, it's exciting and watch this space. I want to be part of it, so with no other manufacturer remotely either on or where technology is going, I am going for my order of a RED EPIC X .

+1- 14MP is only good for certain things, but not landscape photogs, not yet anyways. I do have to say that because it can do 120fps, no longer would I worry about capturing THE instant (i.e. lightning, wedding moments, etc), so that in and of itself is revolutionary.

A NEW CAMERA THAT DOESN'T QUITE MATCH RED BUT WE STILL LIKE OURS BETTER."

Well... I see photographers basicly just *discovering* that there's a video recording button on their Canons... Most people haven't even heard of RED. Nor will they for a while, cus people are kind of slow and dumb, generally speaking.

hands down RED creates some of the best images but the only way you can put a RED camera in everyones hand is if it's cheap. Look at the 7D...60D..T3i yeah the images suck but people will buy them without complaining even though we all know the truth (except producers haha).

if we can get a brain that starts at $3500 then RED can do what Canon does and then some.

I'm really confused I get that RED wants to satisfy customers but they've already won the battle, they have the baller'est camera around but only for the few who need it. Hopefully Nov. 3 changes all that.

Excellent words and excellent work. Some people talk the talk but certainly don't walk the walk. Somebody might be able to negatively criticize other peoples work when their own work rises above. But real professionals rarely if ever go down that road. And that is why they are called professionals. The hacked GH2 is an excellent tool and the real creative people are making it shine. Thanks for sharing your work Bryce O. It is really appreciated by many people.

You know what guys, this is my fault for getting the GH2 into this thread when the topic of codecs came up. I think we should move on or else this is going to head in the wrong direction and perhaps get shut down.

My final thought about November 3rd is that expectations should be kept somewhat realistic and perhaps RED will over deliver which will be a bonus. I agree with someone who said that even the original specs are still quite amazing and would be a powerful tool in the right hands. If both RED and Canon announce great cameras that day, wow filmmakers should rejoice. When in history have filmmakers had this many options? You can shoot on film, hundreds of flavors of HD, and several digital cinema style formats. There really is a tool for everyone out there. Okay, the holographic cinematographers might be disappointed. But for everyone else, the industry has you covered.

hanks for sharing your work Bryce O. It is really appreciated by many people.

Thank you too for the kind words!

No problem... sounds like a good idea. The anticipation is killing me though. I think allot of people are just getting over-excited with all the amazing things coming soon!
