Is it 100% confirmed that RED will NOT make a gold mount version for the V-Raptor?

finally V mount wins :(

V-Raptor = Micro V-Mount
V-Raptor w/ V or G Mount Plate = Full Size or Micro V or G
V-Raptor XL = Comes in V or G

It's been discussed a fair bit on social, but the global market for V and G mount is a considerable ratio leaning towards V. Like 80-100:1 ratio which is how we got here.

And yes, this is a semi-oddity as traditionally Hollywood productions were G for a long while, but somewhere about 5-7 years ago a great deal more V has been spotted in rental houses around the world. Not to mention that the creator of the G mount identified this disparity and also offers V.

A lot of FUD surrounding V in general like batteries popping off and junk, often resulting in crap gear or operator related issues. The mount on V-Raptor is alarmingly sturdy. I'm using RED/Core, Anton Bauer, GDU, and Dynacore and literally picked the camera up by the battery rigged. It's a non-issue and you get the benefit of transmitting the battery information into the camera.

Now, I believe that there are a lot of V-mount users out there in the world, but until I see documented proof, I don't believe it's that high, especially not at the higher levels.

You can blame V-mount pop-offs on operator error and you're partially right, but it's part of their design that allows that "operator error" to occur, because they can look and feel like they are on, because it's a vertical mounting system, so gravity can help hold it there even when it's not truly locked in(it's part of what causes the power issues, too). Whereas a gold mount is usually horizontally mounted and it's either locked in or it's not.

We've had battery data available in the camera/camera VF via Gold mount for literally decades, so let's not pretend that this is something new or exclusive to RED and or V-mount.

Actually, on DSMC2 both cameras I’ve had issues with all 8 Blueshape mini v-locks popping right off with a bump from the underside. The issue doesn’t occur when the blushapes are attached to my teradek, or to their v-lock chargers. At the same time my dynacores are solid on DSMC2. There isn’t perfect compatibility on v-lock even when using “nice” gear.

Not talking about higher levels. I'm talking about the market as a whole. I have seen the numbers. It' unnerving. For instance, one of the news agencies I occasionally get tapped by for various things has literally thousands of V-Mounts for their remote lighting equipment. Not a single G-Mount. Their inventory just for lighting battery power rivals that of several large rental houses IMO.

I don't care, no skin in the battery game other than filming everywhere. I like G-Mount just as well and agree it's a strong mount. But when I made the switch back in 2011/2012 it was indeed for obvious global reasons. The market has only grown since.

Since I am new to video in general; can you clarify some things? 1) Are you saying that V-mount batteries in the past have been known to pop off? 2) Are you saying that the V-mount on the Raptor is significantly redesigned to overcome the tendency for V-mount batteries to pop off? 3) Are you saying that V-mount batteries communicate with the camera and that Gold-mount batteries do not?

Until Raptor XL with Gold Mount is a thing, I’m sticking with Monstro (and Gold Mount in general). V-mount is known for ENG use and Gold Mount for the high-end productions. Anyone that’s ever been to high-end rental house knows this. As an ex-employee of Panavision I can say that Gold Mount IS the standard for high end film and digital production. They also transmit battery info of course.

Wow quite the options on different battery uses. Id bet thats due to some having bad experiences with different battery systems.
I personally like the V mounts but see how if you didn't know or feel if it was locked on you could try to pick up the camera by using the battery. Which in all practice would not be advisable due to stressing the connection on the V mount. I have also shorted out plenty a pin on Anton Bauer mounts by adjusting the camera and having the connection disconnect in the pin part of the battery causing the camera to shut down. Both systems have their advantages and disadvantages.
Just kind of strange seeing so many get worked up and opinionated about batteries.:chuncky:
