  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

News...

Clearly Red is not only commited to the advancement of film, but also filmakers. This is clear in the DNA of everything they do. Thank You. Impatiently waiting for all that is to come!

It is quiet now. It will be quiet for a bit.

It's not that quiet. But you could make it a bit louder. :)

Stage 2 target end date?

That might rock things around here...

David

PS: From SCAM to TARGET in five years. Nice. :)

Based on what I know so far about Jim, Jarred, Deanan and Graeme - here's my prediction of this "explosion":
RED Dragon 6K sensor with 14 stops DR.
RED Scarlet 4K with 8x fixed zoom lens, f/2.8 at the widest - under $6000.

Hope I'm not way off the mark, Mr. Jannard.

I would seriously CRY!

No! WEEP!

I am putting all my faith in a successful synergy between extraordinary components in the form of Red Epic cameras, the new Atom 3D platform and the Gates Deep Atom underwater housing in the promise that the sum of the parts will create something magical as a whole. I am inspired by the energy of this wonderful journey and look forward to this incredible future. Thanks Jim for making this possible.

Sony didn't want me to shoot anything with their cameras before...why should I be impressed with them now? They made the wrong bet when they placed their attention on the elite and the studio system instead of guys like me. Too bad the studios and their elite customer base have already started jumping ship...

Thanks for being the first company that wanted my business without insulting me with junk nobody wants to shoot on.

Jared, this was a great response, I am sure it will echo around here, it hit home with me, been there, got the shirt.

+1
+This year for SF.

Reasonable guess, Eric, but RED has a history of coming out with something totally unexpected and off the radar. I like their new policy regarding announcements and road maps, I hope it changes the perception of the company "outside RedUser" in the long run.

(as for surprises and explosions, it'd be interesting to see the Epic with an optical viewfinder, though I know the idea was dismissed quite a long time ago, but I'm seeing LOTS of DPs and Camera Operators getting very excited about the digital sensor + optical vf combo).

Well, 14 clean noise-free stops.

Then expect an explosion. A really big one.
Should I order one already?

Does JVC's little 1/2 inch 4k prototype mean Scarlet might be upgradeable to this seemingly impending new standard?

People say how bad 4k would be on 2/3rds because of small pixels, but I have located sensors doing over 19 stops, and who knows how hood low light. The existing hdr solution I'd a work around we were suggesting, that requires double frame rate, but sensor technology has existed to integrate samples into one output sample, in pixel. So, this will be good in the future, also s16mm, 4/3rds or 35 mm. Literally, technology exists to make pixel size less of an issue. I suspect we will see 2/3rds- s16mm at 8k stills consumer in the near future.

Ambarella is supporting 32 mp, and they are low end camers chipsets. So. maybe they know something about what is coming to that segment.
