To me this (and the Cineform HD thingy) are the two most readily important news from NAB.

Yup. I'll get Scarlet and Yup EPIC looks great and is the right move (even though it's probably 6k with a 200 MB/S RedcodeRAW a year from now) but for me as a RED user, these two news are all the meat I need right now.

Anyone?

I wondered as well. But there are no hard dates on when the pieces will be available, so I'm guessing that's why there's no huge deal about.

Frankly, just the fact that it's official that Color will take R3Ds is enough news for me. They're on it, and that's all that matters.

Also, Apple has an official presence at the LAFCPUG meet tomorrow night, so I think there will be official Apple news sometime tomorrow.

As I understand it, this integration is more about Apple and less about Red.

And if you know anything about Apple, you know they do it as they see fit, not as another company may see fit.

That part of Apple I won't miss, if they do sell their ProApps divisions.

Uhg. I hope that rumor dies. I just don't need fear, uncertainty, or doubt over the shoulder of my purchasing decisions.

I think this whole Red/FCP/Color thing is going to work out fine. All the players seem to be on board.

Log and Transfer Plugin is working fine.

Log and Transfer R3D to FCP, Sent to Color, Sent to FCP, cut, output your movie.

Have a look at this short clip (10.5MB) done in a way described above.

That'll do me for now. I can wait for R3D in Color a bit longer - these 2K proxies look plenty good enough to be getting on with.

Please put that rumour in the ground. It's a total nonsense to think Apple would sell the division that drives sales of its pro hardware. In recent years Apple have pursued a policy of purchasing software solutions to add to their pro bundles. Why on god's green earth would they reverse all that?

Just to add to the rumor mill -

The stuff I heard (god only knows where from) is that RED is actually doing the developing of the integration into Color and not Apple. There's going to be a new room in Color - The RED room. That's where you'll get access to all the RED specific metadata.

Now how friggin' cool would that be?

Like Nate, I'm just relieved to know RED is on this. I was worried the Scratch deal had shut this option down. Guess not. Or at least until the SDK is released.

The Red room.
Apple are actually letting them do this ? unbeleivable ...

I bet the Red Room will look nothing like the rest of Color's gui. lol

You'd think it would be a plugin or perhaps a Red Camera build. Maybe the rooms are extensible so it's not that tough to add one.

Obviously sending a RED room out to every Color owner might not make a lot of sense. Although it would probably be marketing money well spent if Jim could "convince" Apple to release that to everyone. Especially with Scarlet on the way...

It's both parties. I cannot say how I know. I might have made it up.

And so far, in the demonstration I saw, it was the Primary In "room" that was demonstrated as working with the R3Ds natively. Makes sense.
