  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Newer REDCINE-X...

So how the heck are people going to get 2 Rockets into a MAC when you have a RAID?
Bottom Slot to Top Slot
1. ATI 4870
2. Red Rocket Card
3. Decklink Blackmagic HD Card
4. ATTO Card.

Totally sucks that Mac's have so few PCI slots- what workarounds are there? (Besides buying a PC Tower) :)

Windows Farm gets attractive these days.... 64 PCI lanes.....

Storm is worth way more than the $350 they're charging.

I've seen it. It really is a bargain. What I couldn't find (maybe I didn't read well) is if it can trim .R3D files. That's, for me, an amazing feature from the new RedCine-X.

Storm apart, if RedCine-X could export EDL or XML files referencing to the exported trimmed .R3D from a Timeline (keeping the RMD looks applied in RedCine-X), it would be just great. At least for me, 'cause here we find everyday moving huge hard drives from one facility to another.

Cheers!

Tim, say you have Blackmagic and RRs installed in the combination of expansion chassis, although they are installed together, but if you don't use them at the same time, then it won't use up the bandwidth I think.

Also, RR seems to be running fine at x4 lane at all time, I'm not sure, we need to check with Deanan for the details.

Thanks Kaku... I think the Expanders are 16X (creates 2 8x Slots) so the 2 RR's should work fine as they will both enjoy 8x speeds.

Deanan did say that RR will run in 4x, but not at full speed as its an 8x card. Whats not clear is how much less speed.

@ Deanan,

1. how do we know if we have the proper firmware? Since RX will not detect/warn when we dont have correct build?

I just got a replacement shipped to me from you guys, can I presume its the current build? RX 321 works well with RR< but not playback

thanks!

Use 1.3.3 for the latest build. The version warning will be fixed.

x8 is more important for doing full res 4k back to host.
Doing 2k back to host for playback or transcoding is fine on a x4.

I had a little time testing in 64bit mode.

With iStoragePro Express 1 expansion chassis and the latest Mac Book Pro, the RR video out is possible, but after switching back to monitoring off then either app. crashes or won't be able to play on the desktop. If it does not crash then I can switch back to video out monitoring on then it still works.

Interesting observation...

Interesting observation...

If I run my Mac 64bit version from the desktop or downloads (only two tested), it does not crash. If I move it to the application folder, it crashes immediately after I import a file and move/touch any of the parameters. What am I smoking, you may think...:emote_hippie:

However, this has bean a breakthrough for me in order to use the 64 bit version!!!

EXR output needs to match the decode resolution. So if it's set to full, it needs to be output at the R3D size. Half res output for half decode etc. At least for now.
Thanks Deanan... got that bit sorted.

Now, trying to get 64bit version working on an XP64bit box (Version 2003 Service Pack2).... errors with:

redcine-X_321_64bit_fail.jpg

We've loaded the same files on a Vista64bit box, runs fine.

Any additional info I can add to try to sort this problem on XP64 (besides upgrading to Vista or Win7)?

I'm getting the very similar "side-by-side" error on Vista64.

Thankfully, the 32-bit REDCine-X 321 seems to be working fine.

Had the same kind of issue ... trash the preferences located at ~/Library/Application Support/Red and ~/Library/Preferences/com.red.Red-CineX.plist

This solved the crashing for me although I lost all my presets.

Yes. We're still optimizing and testing for the two rocket case and we've seen about 48fps so far (no guarantees as this is still an early feature in progress)

Great, Deanan.

I have experiences in using GreenICE, BlueICE, Pro Tools TDM and all sorts of acceleration hardware in the past, but multiple RR excites me the most.

By the way, when you play back S3D with two RRs connecting to Sony 4K projectors, do you think we need to genlock everything to make them work in sync?

Chris,

unfortunately Windows XP64 is a bit orf a bastard child when it comes to true 64bit support in the modern framework of Windows 64bit apps (like Windows 7 x64). You'll find that it's really a much simpler proposition to move to Windows 7 64bit (especially as Adobe CS5 etc require Vista or 7 64bit to operate properly).

...and, dont even bother with Vista, go straight to 7. after having to downlod so many service packs and updates to Vista, my programs began to run unreliably, and Premiere crashed constantly. After trying everything, I just moved up to 7 and, voila, problems solved!

Hello earthlings!

Got my red rocket working, kinda. Is my setup done crapily or why I cant view picture in viewer if I output picture via sdi? and Is there possibility to dual view?

Beforehandthanks
-Antris

OK Some weird stuff. with R321 64 Bit

First, I have to say its EXCITING AS HELL TO SEE MY Rocket BoB working!

1. Rocket ONLY plays back to external monitor at 1/2 Debayer thru BoB
BoB Config is DVI out to DVI in to Bob - then HDMI out to Plasma

2. When swapping clips in viewer. The ORIGINAL clip stays frozen in frame, only audio can be heard... but cant view any new clips dragged into the viewer as a Frame from fist clip stays FROZEN in viewer. Weird.

3. Despite #2 above, the correct clip plays back thru external monitoring- but again, only at 1/2 debayer. At FULL Debayer the monitor reads (No Signal)

EDIT See photo... Plasma has R2D2... Viewer has first clipped dragged in... Frozen when I hit play, but Plasma plays fine. (And yes, when I turn off external monitoring, the clip is STILL frozen, cant see any new clips dragged into viewer unless externally monitored)

Thoughts Deanan? Thanks!

There is no dual view at present; only one at a time.

That's same for me.

That's same for me.

OK- Here is the deal... I think I figured it out.

Since DUAL playback is NOT supported... it makes sense why it freezes.

What I learned is you have to take it SLOWLY when maneuvering thru the APP.
Sometimes have to hit pause, then start again... when doing the above catrefully. I get 4K FULL debayer playback to my plasma and its awesome.
AND I can keep dragging clips for external playback... BUT The first clip I dragged in and switched to external monitoriung with... FREEZES permanently

EVEN when I then turn off external. Drag in another clip to BIN Playback window.. the first clip that froze on playback window remains STUCK
and I have to close and reopen Redcine-X to clear the playback window... and then can drag clips in for viewing and correcting in the playback window.

Im sure the next build will stabilize this as we go. I have NOT tried 32 bit app. Just 64 Bit with Snow Leopard

EDIT: Did I mention how awesome it is to finally have my Red Rocket BoB playing back to my plasma via HDMI out??!!!
