  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Newer REDCINE-X posted...

Never mind...

Never mind...

I found it...:mad2:

thanks for the new version. are any windows users getting audio or is it not yet active for our species?

Correct. We are very close on enabling that on Windows too!

Love your Windows support! Now, how about a proper 64-bit version?

hate to be that guy but I tried out this build and its still unbelievably slow compared to the old redcine.

Is this some big optimisation away from suddenly getting a major speed advance, or is this it? At full resolution its so slow its impossible to work with.

Old redcine had completely interactive realtime feedback. Old redcine was faster on my 2 year old macbook pro than new redcine-X on my 8 core mac pro.

This can't be right. It feels like it's not using the GPU at all. Is gpu support, or whatever guff old redcine used to make cuves adjustments etc. really responsive... is this planned? Nobody seems to be talking about this. Instead I just see mostly fanboy posts being uber grateful. Which is fine, but not very informative.

I do hope nobody responds again by saying how awesomely interactive it is at 8th resolution. Or that I should go back to using old redcine. I am, obviously. Until this thing is useable.

Also is there's a full screen playback mode?

Best,
R.

Ruairi, hopefully someone from RED can clarify. However, I've been finding REDCINE-X to be slow, even with the RED Rocket, so I'm assuming there are still optimizations to come. Even with the Rocket, REDCINE-X will not play back full speed at 24fps from a 4K R3D if I have quality set to full and this is on an '09 2.93GHz 8-core Mac. However, Rocketcine-X handles this just fine. While I love the new controls and color abilities of REDCINE-X, it still seems to me that there's quite a bit of debugging and optimization left to do. Plus several features that are still not enabled, talks of cleaning up the interface.

Anyway, love REDCINE-X. I bet I'll love it 100X more when it's "finished".

I find it painful to use on my 17" Macbook Pro and it's a pretty good one - 3.06GHz, 4GB RAM, etc..

I can play without any problem 4K R3Ds resized to 1920x1080 10 bit using REDCINE-X or ROCETCine-X @ 25FPS and 24FPS realtime

on more than two years old MacPro 2.1 version, 3.0 GHz 8-core, 32GB memory, inner SATA 1TB Drive or external AVID /MEDEA Video SCSI 2TB

RAID with ATTO ExpressPCI UL5D controller, REDROCKET card dual HD-SDI out to AJA Hi5-3G HD-SDI to HDMI converter

than to HP Dreamcolor 30Bit LCD monitor.

It's all about bandwidth and data transfer or pipeline...everything should be customized properly...it's not so about CPU speed or latest RAID...

it's more about a proper configuration...also maximum memory installed can help a lot...

Also all file outputs and file conversions from R3D are pretty fast with RR card.

REDCINE-X without REDROCKET card is slow.

So if you do not have RR card or have RR card but not opportunity to connect that to your laptop via several known solutions

than you should face that REDCINE-X slowness issue all the time.

The app is actually called REDCINE-X and X probably means that is specially customized to work with RR card.

So get RR card ASAP and then you are fine.

Great! I'll just spend 5000 bucks just to make it work as fast as the older software that was free, and fast without spending an extra 5000 bucks. Great solution. Thanks. Very helpful.

Can someone who lives on planet earth tell me, if in any possible configuration, they can INTERACTIVELY adjust the colors at full rez using the GPU - like the old redcine could. With no lag of any kind. I'm not talking about 8th resolution. This was fast at full rez on any machine prior to redcine-X. Red rocket will make no difference to this, as far as I understand things. I'm not talking about playback (which is much slower too, but not the issue I'm mainly concerned with here) You adjust a curve. And you wait. And wait. And wait.

Also on a general note, I would really, really prefer if it were possible to lock the menus in place, so there aren't 50 floating windows overlapping each other. Interface design could do with a serious overhaul. Again, to be boring: old redcine had a much cleaner, much less cluttered interface.

Uh... not quite done with this app. Optimization will be done when we get features in and stable... just like we did with the old app. And yes, window situation will be handled... better than expected. Geez... put out a fresh tool and expect it to be finished like a Sony!

And good luck transcoding realtime and monitoring 4K from the old app.

Believe me this is much better than Sony. They would be ignoring us right about now. Still way cool that JJ chimes in. Never get old!

That can only happen once we pull Quicktime completely out of the application. It's already being worked on.

This is a completely new app rewritten from the ground up and will continually evolve and get better. The player will get some big improvements over the next few builds and yes it already uses the GPU.

More GPU features will be added but if you remember many of the problems with REDcine-X were GPU related (every GPU has it's own quirks which makes supporting a general app a nightmare).
