The PC systems do not have to be loud to cool effectively. We use Noctua fans which are very quiet and handle the current heat generation of the X99 systems. They are also available open market.

Heh. Less than 10 minutes later I have it working... <knock wood>
ASUS needs to seriously address their BIOS issues. I want to say it's complete rubbish, but they're still better than Gigabyte and I don't think anyone could pay me to use an ASRock or MSI motherboard right now. Would also help if UEFI in PC land wasn't so schizophrenic when trying to co-exist with legacy BIOS systems.
FWIW, the TB card is back in slot 2 where it should belong. However, I was able to get it to also work in slot 7. But only if slot 6 is unoccupied since the two slots are apparently linked for lane bandwidth.
Not sure why it's deciding to work now. I reset the BIOS to defaults and then made all the appropriate changes again and after a few boots it came up. Int19 has to be postponed and yeah, the above 4G decoding enabled...
You'll never get the Thunderbolt EX/II Dual card to work -- the X99 boards do not currently support it! You must use the single-port EX/II card. ASUS is supposedly going to address this issue at some point, but I could not get any info out of them as to when or even if it definitely will happen. The card is recognized and everything seems to work, but you can't communicate with TB devices attached to it. Bios does not support the different multi-head split TB header on the card. You don't really lose anything by going to the single-port version as the dual port shares the 20Gbps bandwidth between the two TB2 ports. Primary reason to go with the dual port card is if you would like to drive dual TB monitors from the system, but like I said, not a possibility at the moment.
Are you sure it fully works with the dual card? Seriously, it's not supported, not unless they quietly slipped in support for it with the last BIOS update on the Rampage V Extreme -- and I suppose that's possible. It is 100% not supported on the X99E-WS and the X99 Deluxe. At least not as of this post with the latest updates.

Networking - 10GbE is cheap and really quite easy to integrate even in a small environment. I have the following setup:
- nMP with TB Chassis (SAS HBA, ESata, USB, etc), Areca 8050T2, BMD Ultrastudio, Promise Link2 10GbE
- PC with 10GbE, Decklink, Adaptec SAS Raid HBA, TB2 Card (snip)
Cost:
Sanlink2 or Sonnet 10GbE for nMP - $500
Solarflare 10GbE for PC - $350 (Small Tree and Atto offer slightly faster/nicer cards at roughly $650-750)
Spool of Cat 6 or 7 - $50
Akitio and Sonnet both make single slot TB PCIe expanders for $300 or less than can house a 10GbE card should you prefer to go the PCIe route.
I can see and use my drives (Pegasus R6) ~400MB/s Read/Write. I'm on the Rampage V Extreme Motherboard. Right before giving up it started working.

Took me a couple days to get an official answer, but yeah it seems the latest release or two of the Rampage V Extreme BIOS is updated to support the Dual card.Still no joy on the X99 Deluxe or the X99E-WS motherboards. Perhaps soon. I have an EX/II Dual card here as a spare or for when things get sorted out.
Which Pegasus R6 unit are you running and which RAID configuration? 400MB/s is a bit on the slow side unless you're running the 4-drive model or RAID-6, or have another TB device connected...
Davinci will scale across multiple GPU's significantly if you have the full version and not the light version. Blackmagic recommends you have atleast 2x video cards.
