I just saw the video played with VLC (as compared to media player.

WOW Wow Wow. It's like a fog lifted. The clarity was amazing with that increased Gamma.

We need to find a solution for PC's to view quicktime with the correct color rendition. Anyone figure outhow to get sound with VLC?

Any suggestions?

aloha,

Keith

For PC users: Just download the (free) KMplayer from the following link to see the light (and hear the sound)!

http://www.download.com/The-KMPlayer/3000-2139_4-10659940.html?tag=lst-0-1

Alt+Enter ->for Fullscreen/normal,
Space or double click -> for pause/play.
No need for Quicktime to be installed in the system.

NOTE: Before you begin playback, press Alt + F2 to turn off sound normalize. Avoid running two instances (it minimizes in the taskbar). Also, don't forget to maximize your LCD's brightness!

And if you are interested for the main Kmplayer's site:

Enjoy!

BTW, as most of the RED fans here, I'm also impatient to see the 2K version!

yeah VLC kinda kicks ass...

It´s just two weeks untill IBC, judging from the trailer - I have a really good experience ahead of me, can´t wait to see it all full 4K!

Is it me or does the KMplayer downrez the clip?

It is you! :sarcasm:

EDIT: BTW, except for being a universal player, far more compatible than VLC, you can define everything in KMplayer, even the algorithm for resizing (e.g for fullscreen). Its not perfect, but its closer to this, as an all-in-one free player. And it gets better in each release.

Good Advice!

Proteus,

Thanks for the tip. The QT file plays back perfectly on my laptop now.

Remember this even if the clip is posted at 4k most people out there will not be able to see its true glory due to the lack of resolution in there computer monitors. Best and only was is in 4k projection or monitor. We who saw it at NAB can view this as a short taste of the whole movie. Cant wait till RED is everywhere.

Since there was so much drama over posting a 1K frame grab instead of 4K, I decided that we wouldn't post the new 1K trailer from Peter Jackson's "Crossing the Line" today. We had planned to, but I can see clearly that we should wait until we can figure out how to post the real 2K (2GB) Pro-res file. We probably can figure out how to do that in a week or so. I know you won't mind waiting.

Jim

I watch the 2K files from APPLE's hardware but a lots of unstable during playback and is it enough for a 4K just 24 Frame p/s ?

72 Frame /s can down to 24P much smoother and go up to 120P is NOT BAD.

Thanks for allowing me to express my " MAD " ideas or specifications.

SNELL & WILCOX in the UK and STATES who have lots of experts in that area.

Cheers,

STEWART

Stewart, are you referring to the slow motion shots, because they were done in post. The alpha cameras they used only had 24p available.

ok... i have the 2 gig 2k Pro-Res file here. Who wants to host it?

I'll do it... May the force be with my server...

Hm, ok, >90% of the users out there are on windows or linux, so how do they playback that file?

But not >90% of the users in here.

I think the only way to play back ProRes (at this point anyway) is to get a Mac.
