New Scarlet dead after 20 hours...

I too had my camera fail suddenly 2 weeks ago during a shoot. It's currently with Red being repaired, but at the time the screen started lagging and color shifting and the operator shut it down to cool. After that it never came back up, only showing an amber light and spinning the fans at idle speed.

When this kind of things happen on set, is Red Europe able to provide you with a backup body while they repair yours ? Or do they leave you all alone with your crew ?

In my situation, we were shooting in Prague on a bank-holiday sunday (perfect combo) so we were pretty ... hum... f***ed ...
We were extremely lucky and found a replacement one right away, but I had to pay for the rent obviously. Right now, I'm preping 2 commercials starting on sunday, and if my camera doesn't come back in time, I'll have to rent one to be able to shoot, I haven't heard of back-up possibilities. Maybe in LA and London, but I doubt it would work in eastern europe.

Anybody else has some kind info about this?

and it's been away for 2 weeks??? I was hoping mine would come back right away!

Thanks Cedric. Are you French ? Because I know someone who's going to buy a Scarlet too and maybe it would be interesting to study the possibility of helping each others when this problems arrise.

It happened two weeks ago but it has only been with Red in California for 4 days. They did say 3-5 days for evaluation + however long to repair the camera.

How was your camera powered with the problem happened? Bricks or RedVolts?

I'm tying to figure out where the problem can come from... apart from power issue or random spontaneous combustion, I don't see what it can be ;(

My friend and I are about to buy a Scarlet package. We contacted Red Europe to get a quote. We got the quote within a few hours, great. Then we asked if Red Europe was able to send a backup body if the camera fails on a feature film set while they repair it, to rescue the production, and we haven't had any answer yet ;-) I guess you have to buy a second body just in case, or rent it, which doubles the budget... Or you can still pray ;-)

hi Kristin, I just saw your message. My Red has been in "diagnosis" since last friday, nothing new I hope they can give me some kind of information tomorrow.

Did anybody on this thread got news from theirs??

My Red just came back after 2 weeks of repairing... unfortunately, I still don't know what happened to it, they just replaced one of the board, without any other information. The technician might give me more details on monday! but it's back, and it works
