  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

G20 Riot Cops on Red

So the riot cops invaded the neighbourhood today and I couldn't resist running down with my Red, I only shot for a few minutes 'cause it started to get sketchy and I had my baby in my hands (my Red that is).

Here's the Youtube link:

Still can't believe that it Toronto.

Wear a wedding dress, it's a wedding.
Wear a Tuxedo, it's a black tie.

Wear riot gear,....

I hope things stay quiet so they have no reason to use up that 1 billion in security.

Very cool footage Cal. If I didn't know otherwise, it looks like a scene from a feature film.

Agreed. What kind of lenses do you have? It took me forever to realize this wasn't scripted in some way... I thought it was all part of a production you were involved with, then I read what you wrote in the OP.

Well, they already used up some of that 1 Billion, that shot with the white smoke in the distance is the remnants of a burning police car.

Re: It being scripted, that's exactly what I thought, I saw this going on in front of me and I thought, OH MY GOSH, SOMEBODY FINALLY FUNDED my 100 million dollar movie, my producer said we couldn't afford 500 cops in riot gear!

Re: Lenses, that's my trusty RED 18-50. I actually really like the lens, it gets a bad rap but up til now I've had no problems with it, it's light and small and makes sharp pictures. The weight issue is now THE major factor when considering what lenses to buy moving forward. I wished I'd had the 50-150 yesterday! Hopefully RED makes on of those in the PRO line, and I get the matching pair.

Lastly, my hats off to the Toronto cops so far, those guys kept their cool after standing in the sun for 10 hours with people spitting on them, and throwing rocks at them. Insane.

Just imagine if the news was presented in this way..after all Cal`s great footage is just that.

Nice one! Very nice look and very well composed. And the sound doesn't hurt either ;)

:thumbsup:Nice stuff! I wonder how much that footage would have cost if you had to pay all those extras along with the wardrobe and permits?! lol:thumbsup:

Yes that's interesting how the quality makes it look like a movie; I wonder what that could do for the mixing of real stuff with staged footage;

and suppose more and more news is going to look like this, for instance because of Scarlet; what would that do for news, and for movies...
maybe I'm supposing too much, but still

Interesting footage. I could see this being a good situation for Epic or Scarlet.

Absolutely fascinating footage. This style of filmmaking appeals to my sensibilities.

Epic will have, IMO, a powerful influence on how and what people film.

Epic would be perfect for cinéma vérité. And documentary, narrative, corporate & industrial, fashion, etc.

Here, Here.

I forgot to mention how good the shots are. It look like it was shot at 22fps.

Andrew, you're not kidding, I feel like I've been doing curls for a living! Not a second passed during the day that I didn't think: man I wish my stage two Epic was here! To boot, no car access was in the area so I had to walk 10 blocks with my R1.

Thanks guys for all the nice words!

Great footage!
