  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Scarlet Complete Shoulder Rig

Wait, don't the handles attach to the front arms on this rig? Does that mean that you would have to find an alternative mounting method for the handles if you were using the Side Handle?

Maybe their K-7 rig would be more appropriate for Side Handle users? The rails are lower on that one as well so you wouldn't have the battery compartment problem. But does this mean that they wouldn't be standard height? I don't know much about rails yet.

Yeah, I improvised a setup similar to the K-7, so the handles mount on my front rods instead. Not ideal for fast changes on set, but at least having a second set of rods on top clears things up a bit. The baseplate of the K-7 won't let you mount cage arms... so no perfect solution, but overall I'm pretty happy with the K-2. My first shoulder rig had non-standard height rods, and it was a real pain...

Sorry everyone. Camera's been out on rentals since I received the kit. So long as tomorrow or sunday don't rain, I'll be shooting a short film with the full kit.

If I don't shoot the short, I'll still have the camera in-house and can take some pictures of the setup to share.

They have a really cool LCD mount but I don't have it and I don't see it for sale on their site. Might just be a misc. part, I"ll look around in their shop to see if it's for sale:

looks like it's their single railblock secured with Red provided hardware: http://jag35.com/quicksingle-railblock.html

You could probably use two of these, one at each end of the LCD base for an even more secure mount.

Had an awesome shoot today with the Jag rig. I didn't use the top handle/top plate system because it wasn't up to par with the rest of the system. However, the shoulder rig worked like a champ. The best thing about it is how easy and lightweight it is. The rods are offset perfectly for follow focus/mattebox.

The only problem is that we had the redrock micro mattebox, which can't slide down the rails (a problem we're all aware of with this mattebox). What we ended up doing instead is taking a part from another jag dslr shoulder rig that I own, and using it to build top-rails, which allowed us to slide the mattebox into position.
