New RTX Titan Announced

New Titan announced.
The main things that stood out to me are:
- 24GB of RAM which is a big step up, twice as much as 2080 Ti.
- "Titan is capable of full-speed FP16 w/FP32 accumulate performance, other cards in the GeForce family only perform this at 50 percent speed". This sounds interesting, not sure where it would be useful though. Maybe with the new red decode.
- Slightly more powerful, around 10% faster than 2080 Ti otherwise.
- Expensive at $2500

And it doesn't outperform last year's Titan V, which can be had for less now since it's last year's card. Not sure what their game plan is with this thing... Or maybe we have to hold our breath a bit longer and wait for the Titan RTX Ti OC Extreme Wallet-Ripper edition?

Nvidia's product portfolio is an absolute nightmare. There must be many products that they have announced that they have not sold to anyone just because nobody has any idea what they are useful for.

They really need to clarify what their product lines are intended for. They really should just stick to GeForce and Quadro branding to keeps things clear. How many more ways can they brand the same GPUs?

What is the difference between this and the Quadro RTX 6000 with the exact same core and memory count? The same GPU without 10-bit OpenGL UI support?

I think it may be the perfect card for the new GPU de-wavelet and perhaps developed with this in mind..

I did worry about completely loading up GPU with de-wavelet duties. Tools like resolve are (out side of compression related duties) completely dependent on GPU... resolve can run out of VRAM memory even on on a 12gb card. Therefore I worry about how much GPU memory is left post decode... this may make the normal geforce versions less useful if doing heavy colour work... but obviously great for rushes and light gradeing duties..

Tools like TNR can only ever use one card and it needs lots of memory!! So with 24gb there may be enough memory left over after the decode?

A 24gb Titan is unprecedented so I don't understand the frustration expressed above...

It's faster (16.3 vs. 14.9 peakFP32), has more memory bandwidth(672 vs. 653 GB/s), more memory (24 vs. 12 GB) and it's cheaper ($2500 vs. $3000) than a Titan V.

When you want to go the NVidia way and do a lot of 8k (in resolve) and don't want to run out off memory lots of times, this is probably the best GPU you can get at the moment.

Have you tested it?

I mean this one does have twice as much memory, NVLink capability, and RTX cores. It'll be about on par for 3d GPU rendering with the TItan V in current software and significantly faster once the RTX cores are enabled.

I think we should all realize too that the main market for these cards is machine learning, not us. A lot of the differences compared to the V are tailored to that market. Lower preceision tensor math modes, etc.

I'm building a PC with a 9900k. Does GPU power really have a performance increase when it comes down to playback? From what I've read from Puget Systems, a 2080ti and a 2080 have negligible differences in REDCODE playback performance.

So what's the point? I was thinking of getting an RTX 2080 and save $600 over a 2080ti, let alone a $2,500 RTX Titan.

Since R3d decoding is about to significantly change all anyone can give you is a educated guess... my advice would be to wait a few weeks if you can...

currently the differences between good GPUs for playing r3ds is negligible THE key component is CPU... but this advice is out of date very soon...

Hiya, I would definetly get the 2080 Ti if you work with 8k. The 2080 cannot playback 8k in full debayer but the 2080 Ti can.
Not sure if your CPU is up to the task of full debayer however so may not make as much difference.
But yes, in a few weeks the Red decoding will change a lot, but we simply do not know how this will work.

Hiya, I would definetly get the 2080 Ti if you work with 8k. The 2080 cannot playback 8k in full debayer but the 2080 Ti can.

Most of the time the 11 GB of the TI is enough for 4,5 and 6k, with 8k the notorius out of memory problem will emerge (Phil has the P6000's with 24 GB for a very good reason).

Not sure if your CPU is up to the task of full debayer however so may not make as much difference.

Michael's 9900k (~$570) has no problem with real-time de(-etc) GEMINI's 5k.R3D same is true for the 2700x ($330), 1920x ($420) and the 1950x($600).

But yes, in a few weeks the Red decoding will change a lot, but we simply do not know how this will work.

In a few weeks we also have CES with some nice announcement considering CPU's and GPU's with a very attractive price/perf. ratio.

Ah ok....I think Jarred leaked somewhere that he pulled a 1080ti out and it was performing exceptionally, which leads me to believe that going a 2080 will be equally as good with the new updates to GPU in the coming weeks.

RTX2080 has about the same speed as the GTX1080TI (in Resolve), the drawback of the RTX2080 is that it only has 8 GB of memory.
When you don't do a lot of effects, NR, etc.. you should be okay, when you do, the GTX1080TI is the better option (in the 700..800 dollar US range).

I'll underline one thing. And a few of you already know this.

More RAM on the GPU typically in grading apps and other software really help with how much you can tackle with high resolution footage. Nvidia has listened to that request down to working closely with RED even.

Don't know how the new playback decode fully performs, but I suspect these newer RTX cards will help push those pixels in some way. I'm curious enough about this new Titan I'll toss one or two on a box to see what it can do.

Everyone should wait for the Titan RTX Ti Gavin Belson Signature edition.

They really should make a 48GB more consumer friendly priced variation as not many people at least in this space are just using GPUs for the processing power not the display output.

Really what I was getting at guys is the entire Nvidia product line-up is a mess. More than a mess, it's a train-wreck, as andrewhake also mentioned. It's often confusing and muddled and littered with perils to those who don't keep up on it all. Keep in mind that they have had three different offerings all named Titan X -- the last of which was ultimately named Titan Xp after people were returning Titan X cards in large numbers as they thought they were buying the latest and were not.

As Phil points out, the big deal here is the RAM capacity.


I'm about to build me a new small-ish workstation and gaming rig. It's probably getting a single 2080 Ti... Titan RTX may be a consideration, but I need to see how it truly performs in a real world setting first.

I feel like they have released at least 5-6 products which only existed to be sent to a reviewer or some website so they can do a benchmark that is 10% faster than a product they actually plan on selling. It's very odd.

I guess Intel isn't much better at this and I understand that the way these chips are made results in a large range of capabilities so they get branded in different ranges, but I think it just ends up hurting them in the long and the short run. You have to make it your hobby to actually know what products they are selling.
