  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

new REDCINE-X feedback

Put all the shots you want to batch- transcode in a bin. grade a shot. In "Look Presets" window, create an name a new look using the "+" button.
Apply that look to: Bin (all clips).
In the Export window, Export.

Yes this is a start, Ive found that I have a 30% chance of batch exporting clips with the grade applied. The Third time I abort and restart the export, the clips have the grade applied.. sometimes even more.. Whats up with this???

If I were batching without a look applied for offline its great! But If I create a preset and apply it to an entire Timeline(Selected or All) or Bin(Selected or All) its hit or miss as to whether the Grade will be applied to the exported clips/

I'll try the Gamma set to None, I thought I already changed that in my export preset.

REDCINE-X 221 two renders of one clip to different folders look different...sometimes @@ Can't trust anyone in this world :)

Thanks for your reply Nick - but definitely doesn't show up when I choose Pro Res at this end?

Problem Batch Exporting Anamorphic footage: settings don't remain for de-squeezing footage.

Footage shot on REDONE Build 20.1.3

After setting up quicktime export settings and selecting Anamorphic in the "preview (?)" window drop down, I choose Fit Width 2x in the Framing Control panel.

Then I press Export (I've tried all Timeline selected clips, all clips, Bin selected, all, etc) and then it's off to the races...problem then that only the first .mov is desqueezed (streched 2x). The others don't keep the framing control settings.

What am I doing wrong? Why doesn't the software keep the settings?

Enable 4:4:4 chroma filtering

Are you still running an older version of FCP? It occurs to me that the gamma correction option was introduced with FCP 7 if I remember correctly.

I get the same issue if we are talking about quicktime export. The problem is solved if you change from "automatic" gamma correction to "None" in the quicktime export settings.

Not Solved on my end...I notice a very slight difference when choosing "none" but it is still WAY washed out compared to working the color via redcine-x and color correction monitor using REC.709

EDIT: I've always had "none" chosen anyway. But after about 50 different testing options, i have found it must be the new build/QT component. Renders from the old build redcine 180 or 185...can't recall---but loaded it a few weeks ago and prores renders are much better. But none of the new color science options and FLUT etc....

I just want to be able to Batch render MX footage with a simple color grade like in Red Rushes!!!

I use an homemade applescript to handle batch renders of R3D MX using latest REDline beta... I use REDCINE-X to apply a grade for each clip from a bin with auto save RMD (and also to create the output preset) then run the script to batch export all clips. It never crashes and works very well... and gives me total elapsed/remaining info for the whole batch

Render status info is being sent to the mac's screen using Growl so the batch progress can also be monitored from an iphone using prowl app.

It works with or without the rocket but it is still too much tied to my specific daily workflow to be shared but as soon as I wrap the feature I'm working on (in about 10 days) I'll try to write a more universal script for doing this...

(suggestions welcome)

If you can recreate it, send us the log with verbose turned on.

Deanan:

We need better control and thought put into the look presets and management. I hate it when I can't tell if I made a change to a clip's setting. Also, being able to modify a look preset without having to create a brand new one, just for a minor adjustment. Know what I mean?

I was also hoping to have some kind of visual aid to show which clips in the bin's have had color adjustments applied to them. This is crucial.

Also, including the info in a clips metadata about what look preset was applied to it during the transcode would be helpful, as well as which export setting. Sometimes I have to do multiple passes on the same footage with different settings.

Let me know what you think.

That's the problem, I can't figure out when it happens. It just happens sometimes, that one clip is nicely color corrected but other one in the timeline is not...

I'm sure it's been mentioned, but a History/Undo window is desperately needed....

Any news on a new build for Windows users?

Thanks,

Paul

Can anybody give me some pointers on my Redcine-X issue?

Neither have I. I have to drop the Flut to get it to look like it ought to.

I don't know...but if i were to guess...as i am now, i think that RED has not yet come out with a REDCODE Quicktime component that can reliably transfer the new color science info in the transcodes to QT. HOPING that this is addressed and taken care of in the next redcine and QT component release. I can see the differences DRASTICALLY when working with underwater footage.
