  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

new RED Pro Program...

Any chance you could give us an idea of the weight of this Mac-Daddy rig? After seeing the aluminum proto's, this rig seems like it'd be under 20 lbs?

Really? I'm gonna buy a history-making camera and I'll still need a third party adapter to use XLR mics?

small price to pay if you ask me...if that's the biggest issue...i'm still in. actually i'm not. i'm getting an s35!!!

If you can't afford the adaptor (or the I/O module)... you probably can't afford the camera. Where exactly do you think there is room on the body for two full size XLRs?

I'm liking this module idea more and more... no audio module for a music video, where a basic mic for syncing is fine... add a module for docu where I need lav's and booms and mics for the crickets in the background as i interview 4 people that don't know what the phrase "entertainment value" means.... oh sorry.. been working on this project too long, its invading my everything... but yeah... I like the idea of modules, and havae no prob with the 3.5mm plug on the body...

soo... next question is... $3750 for "complete kit"... is that brain, lens, recording module and audio module? ... if not... audio module $$$????

Just read through the 509 previous posts. Very exciting to see how RED progresses and how much they have progressed the last 15 months I have followed them. Looking forward to making my RED purchases.

Seeing as RED is all about modular components this question might seem superfluous, but I have to ask it; will that hand grip (for us shoulder shooters) be compatible with the Scarlet, as well?

To elaborate on what Jim said... these cameras are insanely high performance beasts and getting all that performance in a package this small is pretty amazing feat. XLRs would just suck out a huge amount of space and cut performance on the brain.

It ain't called a brain for nothing. :)

So, all brains have 3.5mm mini plugs for audio, is that correct? What about headphones?

And will we be able to use B4 ENG lenses on the scarlet, and if so, will we need an adapter?

Just hoping for some clarifications... :)

A brain is a brain. All the brain does is be a brainiac...It can't see without glass, hear without an I/O module (exc. fixed lens), taste without...well its not on the list of modules but its probably been thrown around a few times, smell - only if the fan stops working!

Yes. It has been stated that B4 mount will be available. I doubt they will be cheap - not as cheap as the C-Mount anyway.

If you haven't already go over to ScarletUser and have a look at a years worth of information, heated debates, anticipation and drama...

This is all great and I think it looks absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately I will be a bit of a party pooper and point out that it doesn't seem to be clever to have the BNC connections were they are. I believe we all like to run our camera cables to the back of the cam and right now the first thing that comes after the connections are the RED recording media. This (the cards etc) are something we'd likely to change very often and it's not clever to have the cables so close to this.

Sorry for letting you know but I can see a complete disaster in this. Also it would be great if you can try to make those connections in a 45 degree angle - just like some ARRI cams:innocent:

I imagine this to be way lighter then the any camera I have handle, possibly in the range of the 235 fully loaded as far as general weight??

I'm hoping it's way lighter than that-at least 2/3rds the weight of a fully loaded 235.

i guess modules positions can be swapped so that the I/O module goes in the back, attached to redmote?
