  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

new RED Pro Program...

Do you mean I could shoot 24 fps @ 6K to a CF with just that setup? Seriously? Am I missing something or do you need more modules for full motion?

it is insane how narrow the brain is. Though I've seen the measurements it's not until it is in someone's hands that you truly appreciate how small it is.

Amazing!!!

Indeed.. it makes me chuckle every time I see the picture and think... that could be a 645 shooting 50fps of 9k! Or 350fps of 2k!

Jim, LOVE it!

Far out idea for you...Oakley/Red partnership for a pair of glasses that have a built in viewfinder?

Because that setup would be AWESOME for stealth shots if there wasnt that honking LCD or a big EVF attached

Yeah, that's a sweet, albeit slightly ahead of our time idea. Then again...who knows what these guys are capable of at this point.

I think that given their intimate knowledge of both high quality glasses, and screens, and cameras. They could at least do a design thats 10x better than any of the current ones.

I would love a set of glasses with a screen attached (or some other uber techy technique) to use for steadycam and crane shots.

There is no /i system on RED primes.

Jim

Okay, fair enough. Does the capability to use and record lens data from Cooke S4s exist on the brains?

Yeah, VR glasses in the form of a svelte pair of Oakleys would be f'in phenomenal. I'd NEVER stop shooting. I'd take the camera with me to work on the lot everyday and record all the stoogery.

Actually it's a pair of glasses that reduces light levels for everything but the Red screen. It's called "tunnel polarized" or such, but that's all I know. ;)

If I remember correctly, myself and a couple other guys made an Oakley eyeglass screen suggestion for RED One somewhere here on RED User back in early 2006, and traded concepts for it on a thread.

Nevertheless, good suggestion Shawn, I like your thinking on that. It would be way cool for POV work with Scarlet, etc.

Edit: In a quick search of RED User I found one thread started by Sanjin in January 2007 suggesting Oakley video glasses. I didn't contribute to that thread, but it was an earlier thread somewhere in early 2006 that I posted on.

It's a bit like meet the VADERS....

Looks 'bout right... These could very well be the baddest Mother #%€* in the universe :)

OK, I slept on it... we'll do that. Only seems fair to me.

Jim

What about owners of the original 300 mm lens? When we bought that we didn't even know about a Pro version coming up... :bye2:
It would be fair not to penalize us a second time for being early adopters, don't you think?

Panavision has a pair of viewfinder goggles that I've seen used on set. The technology does exist, maybe it's just the demand that is lacking....

I've been requesting just that ever since RED first awoke, seems like a natural evolution considering Jim's eyewear background. :gun:

I also had an idea about this from way back when a friend and I were discussing ideas about our dream camera.

Here is the thread from 2006:

I was just remembering some of our other ideas we had. Batteries and storage in a backpack. we were also thinking about having an EVF (viewfinder) built into sunglasses. Jim might like that crazy idea.

yup.. that rig is all self contained.. Battery, Media, etc.

I'm aware that goggle technology exists, has existed for some time and how it has been used within filmmaking applications (e.g. during the production of City of God, to cite only one such use).

I even experimented with tapping a pair to a Beaulieu 4008 ZM II while in school.

What I'm imagining are a pair that would be indiscernible from a typical pair of Oakleys, like those pictured on the camera op, and of course wireless. How would you construct those given current tech? :)

Jim, get on the phone with your friends at Skunkworks and see what you can do about that. :alien:

Cool

Cool

Jim,

Cool lenses. I am looking forward to the FF versions of these primes.

Jim,

NM...if the specs on the product page are still correct (with everything being subject to change and all)... it states: Interchangeable Lens Mounts - Mounts include power and intelligent lens data interfaces. Got it.

As far as I'm concerned that's a HUGE deal, and I can imagine there are many other filmmakers who feel the same. The RED Primes don't need to have the export feature, but when we need to record lens data for FX integration, having the capability will be indispensable. I'm fine renting the /i lenses when necessary...as long as rental houses will rent them. I've heard tale of Hollywood firms developing some rather peculiar rental policies regarding their lenses.

Man, I have inherited Leitz lens and old Lieca camera from my dad (since 1939) and I collected all Leica lenses and M cameras (including newest M8), I'll not use anymore!
Kind of sad to leave silver halide photo history and leica's invention of 35mm film history.

Thanks Gibby for reminding us for that tread.

In my room all those things are still here.

Have a look at the pictures below.

There are Oakley "O-Rokr" goggles for Motorola mobile phone and iPod

Also "Vision Mobile" head display goggles that I'm sometimes using with Canon 40D DSLR

or with some of my older DV cams.

Also it is good for older video iPod.

Oakley EVF goggles for RED1 were just a dream.
