  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

new RED Pro Program...

I see people talking about the prices but I can't find any post officially stating them.
I am getting dizzy from looking;) help!
BTW
Love the vibe; reduser felt "abandoned" and sad for a moment.
Cheers

jim:
They will be sold as a set at 1st. All 5 lenses for just under $20K ($4K each). All 6 lenses (add the Pro 300mm) for just under $25K. Later this year we will sell the primes individually for just under $5K each, except the Pro 300mm which is $5950.

I know that if I'm stuck on a desert island with 5 lenses...

You are already stuck on a deserted island, far down the southernmost tip of the planet, where kangaroos and sheep vastly outnumber the human population, so you have the right to pick that set carefully mate...:-)

Panavisions 40 is one of my all time favorites. There is something about the 40 that just feels right and very real. Almost like how eyes see.

Thats makes mathematical/biological sense. The Mk1 human eyeball is is about equivalent to a 50mm FOV.

A 10mm is a very difficult/big lens to produce. We don't feel like we can sell enough 10mm lenses to justify the development costs. Better to rent one.

Jim

Jim, out of professional curiosity, do you have an idea of how many lenses and at what cost would you need to sell to even justify your involvement with it? Much the same way you said that an uncompressed recorder would cost around $300K. You see, a 10mm WOULD BE the lens of choice for underwater, and since down there that's what you wanna/need to have at ALL TIMES, most of us would rather buy it rather than rent it, so you could potentially have a 150-300 strong group at first that would buy the lens as soon as you released it. I have contemplated buying the 8R many a time, even if it would unbalance my carefully made and religiously kept budgetary guidelines, so if you were to release a 10mm for, say, $10-12K, I am sure many of us would be there in a heartbeat...thoughts?

300mm vs 300mm Pro

300mm vs 300mm Pro

OK, I slept on it... we'll do that. Only seems fair to me.

Jim

Could this be extended to those who bought the orgininal 300mm or even better could there be a tradeup to the 300mm Pro.

I'd love to trade my RED 300mm for the 300mm Pro and pay the difference.

Regards
Rory

DSMC... with 7" LCD

Jim

Okay, I already knew this since the first announcements, but now is it, my 1Ds III is going... going... GONE!!

With the risk of making a full of my self, (not hard to do as I do it on a daly basis :) ) will I be able to make full synchronizing use of my Profoto Flashes as I do with the 1Ds III??

*EDIT: Just read this replay form Jarred:

we will have an x-sync (pc) port.. which you can drive pocket-wizards from directly or via a xsync to hotshoe adapter

( isn't it so convenient that those hot shoe adapter have 1/4 20 screw holes and we have a nice row of 1/4 20"s on top of the brains )

So GREAT NEWS!!

ciao

The crowd roared thumping on the long table with their forks and knifes in their fists: "More! More! We want more!"

Refresh is back in baby!

very nice ...lo veo claramente que nunca es suficiente para algunos...

Hey Sergue. I believe a reporter once asked Rockefeller: "How much is enough?" and he apparently took a moment before responding: "A little more".

Besides, this is all Jim's fault... he is the one that started this whole you can get anything for nearly nothing trend. Don't look at me.

Tipping Point

Tipping Point

Thank you!

I've been lurking here for ages, and have been on the fence for quite a while.

I bought an EX-3 last summer, and it wasn't the cost of the Red that was at issue, it was the total cost of building a system that would let me get work done.

Lens cost was the number one hurdle, and thanks to this breakthrough work, that now has been eliminated, or at least significantly mitigated.

That's huge.

I'm still worried that the 26lb capacity of my 100mm Sachtler DV8 isn't going to cut it.

If I have to, I can probably sell enough blood to cover a new head ;-) but the price points of the arri primes were just not supportable. I pretty sure my wife would miss the kids sooner or later.

BTW, now that that this is a real possibility for me, I'd appreciate it if one of you fine folks would pm me regarding getting some test footage (doesn't matter what) to help me to identify work flow issues. (I'm particularly worried about disk i/o)

All the best, and congratulations on this outstanding work!

Steve

You must be one of those nano-sleepers.

;-)

Anyway, I´ve ordered the prime set some times back in the dark ages. By clay tablet and messenger pigeon... Hope my place in line is still valid....

Is it?

All the best,

Jochen

DSMC... with 7" LCD...

Do you mean I could shoot 24 fps @ 6K to a CF with just that setup? Seriously? Am I missing something or do you need more modules for full motion?

it is insane how narrow the brain is. Though I've seen the measurements it's not until it is in someone's hands that you truly appreciate how small it is.

Amazing!!!
