So now that Oct 11th is over and we all have our E-W or Weapon Helium in hand or on order, can we start talking about this?

It looks like something I would be very, very interested in.

If true, they are almost guaranteed to have internal motors.

That being said, with all the lower cost options from the likes of Angenieux, Sigma, Fujinon, etc.. will be a tough market to compete in.

I went from Canon to Nikon on the DSLR side because Nikon was the king of dynamic range by a long shot... so all my lenses are Nikon and all my Leica-R's are converted to Nikon Mounts... I hope (but doubt) that when these lenses come out that they will have a Nikon mount option.

As a side note, I am starting to wonder whether I need to use my DSLR for anything ever again. The Epic-Ws stills are stunning. For going to the zoo or something, the DSLR is still just a tad more convenient and portable.

I'm guessing these will be PL mount since that what the mount appears to be in the photo. But if they do allow for interchangeable mounts and there is enough demand for Nikon then there is a chance they'll make a nikon mount, but nikon is certainly not a popular mount in the motion picture industry.

It makes more marketable sense for them to offer multiple mount options since other manufacturers are doing that. They are finally seeing the value that the indie guys are bringing to the table and the increased market share it provides.

I agree, I just think that it won't be profitable to offer something more than EF and PL considering their audience. I bet they'll make the decision based on how many of each mount they have sold.

Still believe these are FF zooms with internal smooth motors for wireless follow focus. Anything else would be... just another lens :tongue_smilie:

I think you're right, and if you are, I'll buy one . or two, or however many different ones they've made.

I agree with the internal motors for focus and zoom. Jarred has hinted few times in these forums that the industry needs to catch up and they're still using antiquated technology in that regard.

I think if they offer two or three different models with varying focal length ranges it would be amazing. I travel a lot and rarely shoot in a controlled environment (set, large crews etc.) so they would be perfect for me. But if the optics are what I imagine they will be (RED quality) they could be the perfect companion for any shooter.

Care to weigh in Jarred?.....please?

I want to know who's doing the optics. He just happened to be at Sigma around the same time when he dropped this pic. Hmmmm.

Yeah. I would say considering the success of the Art series, especially with RED shooters you're probably right Brody. Makes a lot of sense.

Man, when I invoice clients I may as well put RED's bank details for payment instead of mine.

What is that? A new Red lens back in March 15'? Look at the size of it, looks like it could have strong motors inside just from the sheer width of the thing. wow.

it looks very similar to Jarred's picture. Perhaps a prototype and now they've refined it and made it more manageable in size. Or it's a monster zoom like 70-200 equivalent with internal motors............

The overall large lens diameter could be fixed to ensure that an external half-moon, underslung motorising system could clamp ~220 degrees around the barrel.

Looks too short for something like 70-200 equivalent, but perhaps a mid-range zoom..?
