  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New re-designed TOP FAN?

Thanks Jarred,

Does this mean the Epic body has been changed?
It looks like it is where the heat sink is now placed.

Patrick

Nope.. the heatsink is still there. Nothing changed on the Epic.. the fan just drops in. It was always designed to have this fan, thats why the heatsink doesn't go all the way to the top and why there are the little contact pins under the grill.

you have no idea how jealous I am of your white camera with the red lens cap.

Nice design Jarred!
Anxious to see the difference!

Pat

Ps: It's just incredible that the Epic still holds hidden secrets and features!

Jarred,

Storm Trooper looks great.......do you feel that it collects less heat because of its color?

Will there be an improvement in fan noise if I only add the top fan and update the firmware?

That's certainly the idea. . . Though we have yet to have proof in terms of seeing them out in the wild.

Having had personally worked with Jarred's light-grey RED ONE that he confirmed to run several degrees cooler because of the paint - the answer is most definitely yes...

Having said that - I prefer the light-grey look, as it is less obtrusive on a set. I wish there was a light-grey version of all the modules and accessories to match the base Scarlet body. It kinda looks funny with the black SSD side module and the black SIDE HANDLE, never mind the rest of the kit...

It depends what you're up to... sometimes I think a "matte" finish is really the best because it's less prone to the introduction of reflections - the color itself doesn't matter as much... but shooting in environments where reflections are no-go I'd say "black is beautiful" ;) We often wrap the whole camera-font (despite the fan-grill) in dark cloth to archive this, But I'd totally love a "matte" surface Version - like the rubber one the black MacBook had :)

It is too bad something changed between the Tactical Top Plate design and the final fan design / size.

Any update on when / how to send our plates for modification ?

Any idea when these will be in the store in Hollywood? I always like going into the store instead of waiting for a package :)

I think if you call your rep they can give you info on how to take care of it.

I asked few days ago (in Europe) but no news yet...
Will ask again. Thanks

Yeah.. we needed to make a decision.. Try and keep legacy and stick with an old top fan the way it was designed, or use a better design with better fans and housing that resulted in better performance but needed a bit more room than the exiting top plate provided. We went with better performance, and offer to upgrade the top plates out there for no charge.

I know it sounds strange.. I am sure other companies would of either just used the old design to make everyone's life easier, or just come out with a completely new product and force you to buy everything new.

Speaking of which... There will be a new top plate specifically made for the top fan, that you can buy instead of upgrading your old one ( existing top plate owners get a bit of a discount )

It's pretty badass...

Sounds like a very good decision, thanks for the infos !
Nice top plate design too, I would love to have details on estimated delivery dates / price to see if it's worth shipping the old one from Europe or not and be ready for that new quieter camera !

Thanx for the update Jarred. I think its a very generous offer to upgrade the top plates for free.
I hope that happens before the hot summer in NY is over. ; )

I always wondered why there were pins there but nothing ever used them :)

Question...
Extra Fan means RED VOLTS last less time ? Being a huge RED VOLT user (in the side grip) I really need to know. Please :)
