  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New project...

if jim is efficient, he hasn't bothered having an idea yet .. he 's just reaching out/sussing what you all want to buy next ..

Jim is not lacking in imagination, so no need to poll the hoi polloi.

He's also not lacking in understanding... that is, understanding what can be accomplished. His previous statement that they had hit a wall suggests they are pushing the limits on that.

My understanding is that this is not a "Jim" project but a "project that includes Jim." Whatever his contribution, I have every confidence he and others will be successful.

The question is, are there others working on the same thing and if so, who will be the first to succeed.

If this a camera phone, he is likely working with at lest a chipset manufacturer, if not a phone manufacturer it is too difficult to get the market placement and penetration to turn over enough units to lower the cost per unit.

Maybe you are right, but with so many iterations of camera phones available I just don't see Jim being involved with anything so mundane.

Have you seen the patents. With redray or redcode, helium sensor, it would be the only phone to buy for a camera, and the ultimate pocket cinema camera, if you font put in a sim card. The sakes from phone, stills, cinema, video, provideo could be fantastic, because there is basically nothing else out there of this level in many of the markets at this low price level. A fullhd pocket. Of course, there is money to be made licensing the codecs for normal phones if you have the chipset that can do it (and no all about it needs specialist hardware, as apart from a specialist licensed circuite I'm chipsets available to any manufacturer, I am far from convinced you could not do a GPU version, if not for 6k, but for 2k-4k. So one knockout phone, and lesser mobiles with just the video codec support. But them again, I'm a pretty put there business man.

my cousin has several hundred patents in his name.. and was the ieee rep for texas instruments .. which he enjoyed..but they got scared he'd be headhunted , so replaced him .. which backfired, as he went to pastures new
..his patents are utilised in most brands of mobile phone ....but ..

jim ain't making phones ..ill bet against that one .. its top boring..
creating a new codec for phone ? ..nah..

he's surely too old to focus on something as boring as that .. he 's not selling bmx parts anymore .. he can surely dream bigger than that..

..its definitely something that can be sold though ...for money ..

Well, its really a pocket cinema camera. He doesn't have to create a new phone or codec, best to get a existing manufacturer to partner with to do it and sell it through their distribution chain, and Red sell it through their website also to increase product revenue. They can just use redray and redcode, so no need to make another codec.

Several hundred patents sounds is pretty high. I ran into this guy today that usually talks to me for half an hour or so. He has an maths IQ score around 162 or 165. His daughters are in uni doing rather well too, runs in the family.

Guys I don't think it's even anything do with cameras. I agree this is much much bigger something to do with energy or the like

If it was camera related why wouldn't it fall under the RED branding? The fact that it's separate from RED makes me think it has nothing to do with imaging.

ETA: Also, agree that the idea of it being a camera phone is boring and trivial.

Very exciting, you would want to male it through somebody else, for very obvious regions. So, no cameraphone is definitely not something Red should manufacture and distribute in house. Maybe people are just wishing for what they want beyond realism (find me the patent).

So, what I want, if we are all going throw things out the window for fantastic stuff. A cheap flying car that requires only my present license to fly it, it is so easy. Run on a sustainable fuel source that cones with it and will last at least 100 years. And one of those blue girls from avatar super hot that can breath oxygen, eat very little, speak English with an eastern European accent, to at least drive me around in it. Is that exciting enough? Jim you're up, I expect my delivery by Dawn.

thats why they removed him from the ieee .. unfortunately his intelligence is on another branch of the family to mine .. then again, i don't want to spend my life wrestling with boolean algebra anyway .. not worth it for products i don't care about ie, phones! .. the money would be useful though..pretty sure computers should be designing computers by now anyway .. not sure what the holdup on that is..

jim has mentioned the African wildlife fund several times on his facebook page .. could it be new drone technology with built in red style sensors, capable of tracking poachers and animals? .. that would be great marketing for the new drone product .. and jim is good at marketing ..

Yep, mobile phone a lot of people own those.

Let's hope its not just a new form of biodegradable sanitary wipe to cut back on toilet paper. :)

Konrad, the ai project. They don't have the intelligence to figure out what to design, and his to achieve that the vest way and the means new ways to. You can give tjrm.that picture now, and basically they lay it out for you.

In Japan in the 90's, or 80's, they announced $100 million I think, push to develop ai in ten years, still nothing. Things weren't too hard, it is just people often don't have an idea how to do something really new.

Well,, about the other branch, you never know that branch might have been attracted to something in the other branch that also had ability.

Sigma's Foveon sensor and low profile lens mount in a phone.

:). Foveon really needs his help.

Undoubtedly Graeme will want to whack an low pass filter on that thing.

I doubt that tracking poachers is "for everyone". It is great and humanitarian, but that is way off target, IMHO.

haha ..yeah, you're definitely right ..jim wants proper kudos at his age .. and a new phone would do it .. ***k the animals .. we've way too many species as it is.. and its not like they all depend on each other..its time nature realised we don't need it ..and elephants ? .. large waste of space iyo ..

..hopefully they'll get whats coming to them ..once we've dealt with the bees once and for all .. buzzing little b*******!

@wayane .. if we can increase global smog levels, we won't need olpf's .. and it'll bring down the cost of manufacturing phones .. fingers crossed it'll happen ..

I like the animals. All balance, bro. If the evidence is he's working on something for the masses, well phones are there.

Konrad, if English is your second language, I understand that you may have misinterpreted me. So, no problem.

if you didn't find my response amusing.. you may be because you take yourself too seriously karim.. look into that ;) .. but i know what you meant..
..but your own poor sentence construction suggests you think the work of the AWF is not for everyone .. so you left the door open ..

and i'm all good with english ta.. i live here .. i even used to try and teach english to americans at one time .. but they struggle with spelling , so i gave up .. c-o-l-o-u-r .. not so hard ..

if jim is making a new phone .. that would be one boring idea / story.. but thus far .. its just an idea some people are pushing on this thread ..lets hope jim has found a bigger purpose in life than filling that highly neglected market ..

"There is a new project that I am so excited about that I can hardly contain myself" .. yep , sounds like a phone .. wow, to think we could all be using them soon ? .. i can barely contain myself ..from laughing my titties off .. (yes, titties is a legit english word karim ..i'd love to play scrabble with you btw :)

i wish jim would invent something that gives me access to a raw bayer pattern from a red camera .. then i could backup my files in a "non-proprietory" format ..and they'd be 1/3 the size of a debayered tiff.. now that would be cool ..a DNG file would suffice..

C-o-l-o-r in America Konrad, just go with the flow. American English has had it's own conventions for hundreds of years. The fact that most of them can't even find the US on a map according to old surveys, doesn't change that.

Some people pushing, there are Red patents and diagrams in the thread, it is one valid option that fits the wide range of people statement. Wildlife fund drones do not fit. Fewer than 1% might ever buy one. Which ever it is, the decision has already been made, no need to push (except for improvements to the expected product  ).

if its a phone :emote_headwall:
