  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New project...

He did say, "It has to do with space. And travel. And time. And electronics," but the moon is too trivial compared to that. Unless he bought a part of it and formed a new country called Kekistan.

Space does not have to do with literary going to space, it's also about distance and location. Either it's about a new way of traveling or it's about a new way of communicating

Big letters on the moon, in space Christoffer :)

I'm about 99% positive that whatever Jim is working on, it's some sort of volumetric video capture. A set of cameras placed around a scene to volumetrically capture the entire space, so that when played back, you can wear a HMD (AR or VR) to walk around the playback.

This incorporates (recording) time and space, and it's digital. :)

So something building on the impressive Joshua Bell tech demo on the PSVR? A system that makes that kind of process accessible to filmmakers would be amazing - I have a project in mind that would be perfect for this, but I don't even know how to begin going about it! As well as the capture technology though, it also needs a new standard format and playback ecosystem, as each 'film' can't be a standalone application.

That has been done, just not with cameras like RED or 8K, right?
Thought fuji? has volume capture room in Tokyo

Even a guy I knew decades ago had come up with a capture idea, went and saw Silicon Graphics I forget then they did the system they used for the Matrix. I didn't tell him, but I had the same sort if idea in the late 80's for simple 3D graphic technique, and had a much better, perfect solution I come up x years before.

Yeah, something like this. But friendlier to use (plug and play with algorithms that do all the stitching work for you) and highly configurable to capture various volumes. And spits out a 3D geometry file that can plug into any game engine.

Just a hunch.

I've worked in, and been privy to the space industry for years... The advances in the public sector are incredibly impressive, and IF he's involved with something to that scale...

I'd be very happy..

Although.. My money is on a time machine. Just sayin... Innovators aim big, and Elon Musk is already doing the space thing.

According to a guy I knew years ago in intelligence the public sector is way ahead.

No one seems to be paying attention to what Jim is saying... He said we would all be putting deposits down soon on "it" and it's "something for everyone". Its obviously some kind of new camera / sensor tech. My guess is a phone that shoots compressed raw video. It's certainly not anything like what everyone on this forum has been wildly guessing about. :emote_headwall:

How many people care about raw video and sensors? Definitely not everyone, probably less than 0.01% of the population...

ime, usually when there is a breakthrough in technology.. it is built on the foundations of research coming from academia , and paid for by the poorest working class population ..the main tax payers.. then commercialized to generate profits for large organisations, corporations and private companies .. otherwise known as professional tax dodgers .. but who can blame them

i fully expect in the future google will invent everything , and we'll all just pay them tax directly ..

..but ill give jim the benefit of the doubt , his publicity campaigns are interesting to follow.. but ill be disappointed when its not an intuitive to fly, ultra low power hover board with cruise control for long journeys .. lets face it, its time it happened.. and when all the trees are gone no one will be interested anymore ..we'll all be at home drinking cans of air manufactured by PepsiCo and wondering how to afford the next one

if its not a hoverboard .. i hope its a synthetic humanoid who can go shopping for me, and can receive the latest tech news wirelessly to their brain..so i never have to join facebook, twitter or Instagram

or maybe a new kind of animal ?.. its time that trend started reversing .. a mammoth would be cool ! .. well .. actually , it would probably be too hot .. unless shaved

was i close?

Justin, you obviously are not reading this thread. I and others have been speculating that and I think the red smart camera phone patent pictures are here too. But even if people get the answer, they enjoy further speculation.

Owen,

Was right, but it is merely a means to an end to get better quality at lower data from Bayer sensors that enthusiasts and main pro customers may like. Just reputation, kudos, as good camera phone is enough to get other customers in to.

if jim is efficient, he hasn't bothered having an idea yet .. he 's just reaching out/sussing what you all want to buy next ..

He asked us before, I laid out the Red One around 2004.
