  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New project...

I can see how, with known technology, one could make a portable device that basically makes you a human helicopter - a set of blades with grips. You could make one with a lawnmower engine. Your body would be the ballast. Fun, but dangerous!

I think that has been done. But sticking to the fun drone theme, with 100-1000 little propellers on your body (and very short hair) :)

Actually, when you think if it Karim. How come more people haven't gone go go gadget with a mini propelly, or drone. If you had 4-10+ propellers over head you might be increasing safety many times with the right system, as you can make each independent, so you can afford to loose a lot, plus each wouldn't have to witk as hard, increasing reliability at a certain build quality and reducing costs many fold. Now put a seat underneath for comfort. I was speaking to the guy doing the first diesel helecopter I think, a few years back, about doing hybrids. The strength of electromagnetic motors was an issue that I had a simple solution for.

Anyway, if it wasn't more unstable gusts the higher you go, a simple grip and harness version could be made fold up in a backpack. Issue is I would have to do some careful design thinking, calculations, and I simply.don't know enough about materials science to work out what materials, if any, could be used for such a compressed format. However, prinintung it at the atomic level flawless would do it. One of my science teachers flawed us in school by telling us that a satellite orbital heavy lift system could use pure nylon to do it, as the single pure strand would fe stronger than steel. I think that she was the one that was the real life daughter of the maim character portrayed in the Roger Moore film Gold. Fun, she used to do stuff like tell us free energy wasn't possible and I'd come up with a design in my head in 15-30 seconds.

Well, she only did that maybe one or two times. As yssyal I kept it to myself and came up with a note conventional design in 30-45 minutes, then concluded that it would break the world economy in the next 5 or do minutes, and tucked it a long way away.. Pretty good for a 13 or 14 year old

These have been flying in Germany for a while now...:

What if...this guy inventing cameras n' stuff slipped in a wormhole while testing a new technology and this thread just goes on for ever leaving many endlessly wondering...

He, he. A llittle simpler and more compact than that, but thanks Hrvoje. Looks nice, do they store batteries or fuel in the tubing I wonder?

You can see what I'm getting at. A small helicopter might require 50 hours or maintenance and you xsn go fly. By reducing the stresses and simplifying the system the cost might reduce and constant maintenance might virtually disappear, greatly expabding the market of who might own and use one. Sure, you are still going to have maintenance schedule, and eveeytime you hit bad weather you might be required to drop it in for a thourougj check. But with atomic level prinining this might mostly disappear as even pure lattice of glass was estimated to be 10,000 times stronger than old armoured steel, because the lattice would be free from defect that keada to weakness. That is basically bounce worth in a crash. The military definitely needs to do this, it would end heaps of hassles for them and lead to great increases in effective capability per budget. But people don't think like this.

That's a two-seater with space for luggage. They have a smaller single-seater, as well as larger cargo version. You can't get much more compact then that. Best performing 28-incher can lift around 3.5 kg safely (7 kg max - not safe). Do the math...

Testy.

I was just going to post that my idea is more like thus but more compact:

http://www.e-volo.com/index.php/en/vc100-en

However, the numbers are irrelevant, as it is simply his much power you can sustain to a weight to lift it. If U hit somebody with a photon powerful enough I could propel.them to the edge of the universe at varying speeds depending on power, and likely bits of them. So, if you want to do REAL design you have to be willing to ignore numbers in search of designs with better numbers. That has been the way it has been since before I was born.

Once you have established a workable design which is a series of structures, processes and methods, you van see what numbers it spits out.

So, this thing looks like something I would fly. From the description it looks way to complex and not safe enough. The complexity is a major factor in the safety. A hundred microprocessors as a person that has had to deal with real time mission critical design methods, and people that do that for a living and design leading edge processors into the real time environment and NASA control systems, that makes me shudder a bit. Go and design it so it can reasonably safely be easily flown without ANY microprocessor, then you have a design suitable for a microprocessor. Wherever it is a malfunction or in relation to a lightening strike, or loss of power, you want the craft to be safely flown if possible and safely landed if possible for no microprocessor operational and minimumal electrics, or none at all, on an electric vehicle like this. However, this is a nice first stage and I wouldn't mind one.

Last week I think I considered a design, now I remember, that was basically a strap on glider aircraft design, but better than a paraglider. I have been considering my drone designs, and seen an documentary on his the kitty hawk was beat by a German guy in American, by a long way (please note there was also an Tasmanian inventor that put down ground work before the Kitty Hawk. So my brain was on auto mode designing stuff.

There are a lot of ways to do things. Many years back I came up with a number of proposals for airships and flying cars. The flying car designs (like they are trying to.imply here for reducing roads) out there tend to feature one advanced feature to make it with, and so far have virtually all failed to take the market. The design above is probably pretty practical for increased market penetration due to it's safety features, simplicity and probably reduced costs. In reality it might act as a very good ride service for the rich, business people, emergency, and people in remote regions (though I don't know how it would go yet in Alaska, or the desert). Cargo and specialist transport too. Even as shuttle service. But this design is pretty much concentrating on one or a few features.

Years ago I determined, with some other advancements, the way to make a successful flying car was to incorporate all the advanced features that were practical, from the different flying car concepts into one product. My aim, and my proposal probably would get there, was for something similar in price and efficiency, and ultimately safety, to a not rock bottom cheap v8 family sedan car, but traveling at hundreds of kilometers per hour over 500 kilometers (maybe over 1000km, but fuel tanks are heavy).

Now as far as batteries go. They alude to a massive increase in battery life coming. Silicon nanowire batteries are ones I sometimes mention, that are said to have 10x more energy storage than normal lithium batteries, but that is much much less than diesel. However, diesel engine burning is said to be much less than what the Bourke engine allegedly could do with hydrogen burning. The thing is that a electric motor at the wheel or propellor, minimizes a lot of losses, but who says you can't have the engine at the propeller burning a compressed fuel to a hydrogen flame front. However, engines are unreliable but if you wanted to, you could have a hybrid scheme, centrally generating energy to produce a charge to store, or use at the electric propeller. Now you greatly can increase range and even reduce cost at range, increasing sakes numbers and volume often reduces costs reducing prices increasing sales again.

It probably means a complete performance related structural redesign to do.these things.

When people say something is too complex, costly and could be safer and have more performance that speels out opportunity to compete.

I was joking, it could read you wanted to work in the personal drone itself :)

:biggrin5:

Wow that is amazing.... (thanks for posting that) A not so big drone with 200lbs + of thrust! ; forget flying people I'm thinking HEAVY cameras with gyro-stabalized platform. That "Big" drone looks like it flies real smooth and steady. Assuming its real ;-) .

Welcome Art. Much appreciated. I was hoping for something last week, and a reveal at CES.

However, if Art is your name or alias, you have revealed enough for people to work out who you are and what it is. Searches can be done on your style of writing and grammar (why I changed my writing 12 years ago to go undercover on the camera projects, and then they changed everybodies user name to their real name, now I am stuck writing like this) and name etc. :)

I look forward to hearing what it is about. I had long suspected Eric might be involved, he has the talent.

So, what industry do you work in?

Oh you like my posts, and are a documentary maker with ghosts and phantoms in the title, that explains it then

Elsie, its cool, it will come when it comes, this is just another step forwards.

Thank you so much, Wayne, I have enjoyed reading your posts in this thread. Here is a little something for you all to nibble on:

Interesting...

"At the southernmost end of Highbridge Park is a part of Washington Heights that has been neglected and disused because of the lack of pride that was once a part of baseball history. Coogan's Bluff played an important role in bringing the residents of Washington Heights and Harlem out on a warm afternoon to watch a baseball game without having to pay for it."
