  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New project...

I knew a guy that was planning to do a 18, thousand processor chip nearly 20 years ago. It's in the millions now, and is what I have also been planning with a high performance design. I'm working on theories to get a processing unit smaller than current transistors. Some pretty interesting stuff.

Agree with all the above.
Oh thank you Elsie.

I've quoted the wrong post.

Good points... and just like PayPal gave Musk the success he needed to build later successes, so it may be Oakley and RED built that platform for Jim to expand his horizons. Like Musk, Jim needs new conquests it seems.

Some have painted Steve Jobs as some great mind when in fact he was a one-trick pony, for the most part. Musk is as of yet unequaled, but let's not forget others like Richard Branson and especially Jeff Bezos. Musk and Bezos may become known as the two greatest innovators of our time.

There's room for more, but getting it done will be what determines the legacy.

Is it a new pair of sunglasses?

That's how life goes. The innovators always come too early. And then some louder-less-nerdy guys, better at synthetizing, selling and promoting things, come into play :)
That's how Steve Jobs succeded. The first 4k camera, the Dalsa Origin, was shown at NAB in 2003, years before Red. Pop Art was created in the UK before Andy Warhol, etc etc.
Two different types of intelligences which, together, lead to some crazy products. Real innovators are often so crappy and stupid at making their creation shine. Woz and Steve Jobs, Yves St Laurent and Pierre Bergé, and many others, were lucky enough to meet their counterpart and work together. I think I've read on this forum that some Dalsa guys worked at Red too. It's just sad that so many talented guys will stay unknown.

Yep. It's like that new Kira motion control that was at RED's NAB booth this year. Look up "Kuka with camera" and you'll find uses of similar hardware from years ago. But Kira tweaked it, packaged it up with some really great looking and easy to use software that I'm sure people will love to use. That's the Apple approach. Take something innovative and make people actually care about it. Same with Movi (helicopter gimbal with handles). But making it functional for day-to-day users and not just engineers can be the key difference between "innovation" and something industry-shifting.

So I just read this interesting article about a company that invented glasses that accidentally helped cure color blindness.

http://www.popsci.com/science/artic...tter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=TaoOfColor

I also noticed this little tidbit at the bottom (emphasis mine), "the two are in talks with companies such as Oakley and Ray-Ban to put the technology into sunglasses."

Could this be the new project that Jim has been hinting at???????

I'd be ok with that. This tech is fascinating!

P.S. The article also states that the creators of this tech initially thought to apply this discovery to cameras, but deemed it too expensive to explore. Wonder if there are any billionaire geniuses out in the world, who also already own a camera company, who might be interested in a multifaceted partnership????? Of course fixing color blindness the world over is awesome... but I also wouldn't complain if you totally revolutionized digital color capture as well :)

Real innovators are often so crappy and stupid at making their creation shine. Woz and Steve Jobs, Yves St Laurent and Pierre Bergé, and many others, were lucky enough to meet their counterpart and work together.

There's also a third group. The people who always have a long list of supposed "inventions" but never seem to be able to create anything, mostly because their "inventions" are semi-obvious but impossible to execute with current technology and whose only real innovation is the actual execution not the idea itself. "I invented a new revolutionary means of transportation, it's like a car but it flies! All I need is an engine small enough and energy efficient enough to provide the lift!" "I invented a tablet as thin as paper that can be folded up when you're done! All I need is a flexible screen, battery and a 10x more energy efficient chip than currently exists."

... 3d headsets are doomed .... headsets are transitional .... AR/VR is going to live on devices, the general public has no clue about ... :-))

I do know what you are talking about, iPhone 7 is going to let everyone know, but there is something to having your entire field of view covered and adding head movement tracking to that...

My system is meant to be ffov and $100-200, using web assembly or machine code, able to be worn through out the day, and fashionable. Money, money, money, to do it. The present designs are too cumbersome. It would be potentially switchable from AR to VR. It's unreal how much normal engineers just don't get what gets left to do. In the inventors workshops years ago they taught mining out your patent potential (stretching your claims to cover as much territory as possible, which an patent attorney normally does) but I don't see that creatively, which is the root of profit but often disregarded by those that can't create profit root themselves. Somebody like Steve is a good boss to have, he sees it and says that's cool let's make it happen. So your creative work.gets financed, so you can finish it. There are a number of design cues between mine and Ives work, and some technical innovations with Apple products.

In matter of fact I sent Apple out a proposal for a traveling combined print/scan head laptop in the late 80's/early 90's. The following years saw Canon I think, introduce a laptop with printer first. A coincidence, that's probably mine, but they didn't introduce a self traveling scan head into it, too radical. The head actually moved the page too. Very, very compact with a flat bed scanner copier printer in less place than your average flat bed scanner. But you could also do auto feed. There you go, a basic multi function printer that could even fit in a laptop.

All this stuff is ultra cool. Figuring it out too. Like trying to figure out new credible technical technologies for stories.

I do the most technicaly exquisite science fiction stories in my head if I just sit down.

It would be so cool to make a living from doing this stuff.

Gavin, I'm the sort of person that comes up with the engine design, paper and 10x efficient chip over the already 10x more efficient world leading technology people I know have on market. But it is hard to convince a fool past his own superiority, thus they cut their legs off to spite. Resulting in lowering their profits, which shareholders can sue them for, as it is their legal obligation..

Most of what you said I have or am working on, not the idea but the solutions

People take a notion of a product as an idea. Too me, an idea is more a solution to how to implement it. Saying "hey would it be good to have a product that was a foldable paper thin display, let's do it", is more a notion, and unremarkable at that, but how to do it? Now, if somebody said "an air display by" x,y,z, mechanisms, that is more an idea, as it incorporates mechanisms to archieve it, it actually has form (of an idea) that somebody that has trouble even coming up with the notion or direction (another good term), could use to implement it, providing they have enough knowledge and skills. A lot of people that have knowledge or skills, are not very imaginative/creative, not very good at it, and produce very unbalanced solutions two ideal characteristics in designing product. To themselves, like some renting moronic skeptic, they are whole, good, right, even superior, but are literally sad jokes ruining the place instead of running the place properly. The are the moronic monkey engineers, who you pay to do implementation of what has Vern worked out for them. That's like 9 out of 10 people, or 99 out of 100. Who you want is the 1 in 100 or 1 in 1000. If you are rich, you get them, at least you hopefully won't have to constantly review their work. That is the sort if 49 member team hierarcy I was planning for my software division. A new structure to ensure high quality software implementation. From idea to implementation with the normal ones, a rollercoaster ride of potential disaster. Anyway, then you have to see if you were right (can be pretty obviose at that point). Work out how to use and implement the mechanisms, maybe a lot of research, but my mind is full of tens of thousands of things filed away from observing and reading thousands of science and engineering journals, and ussually work on what I know can, should or could be done in certain ways. My sort, aspergers are very good in picking things out and organising them, and my other mob, tourettes, in creative branching. Unfortunately this is such a rare condition it tends to leave one an aboriginal resident of one in Waynesville.

Aspergers tends towards implementers but may suffer creatively. Tourettes tends towards creative, but may suffer in implementation. But the two skill sets aren't exclusive, both camps can have some extra natural ability associated with the other camp. However, the Aspergers camp has extra skill that is probably associated with different brain structure.

Anyway, the world has moved on and much of my past product avenues are now discovered by others, or defunct, but I still have some big ones left that are bigger than the rest. Mostly very costly.

The immediate solution to the flying car is to combine most of the flying car innovations in one device, with my crash avoidance and flying innovations. It hopefully should make it as fuel efficient as a uneconomical car but nearly as easy to fly and nearly as safe as a hot rod say. Admittedly I have not spent a lot of time working out this one, as I mainly concentrate on what I can achieve. One cent paper computers is one the extreme ones I have to work out adequate solutions for (just because you come up with a solution does not mean it is adequate efficent, durable or practical). Time to go to the dod with that one. The whole third world could learn to read and write and be more civilised.

You may not realise this, but lack of education is a big determining factor in violence, education teaches mindful discipline in order to do it, and gives non violent options. In Vietnam my friend was special services signal officer, retired senior special forces having set up one of the main training basis, after he had an epileptic fit while driving the commanding officer around. Now he said his IQ was pretty average for the Australian military, 121 or 127, I think, even on the lower scale, that is literally way good. The average American was the opposite, so the story of both experiences in Vietnam was like night and day. They still do good work today I have another old time special forces friend that has told me a story about a senior American officer so bazzar its hard to believe it's true, so I'll have to look that one up. But put it this way, even if true I don't want to mention it. These intelliegence guys like spinning a yarn if they can get away with it, but these two are good ones, the other legendary, we'll connected one, would be another story. One of them was a friend of dsyo. A typo.

Anyway, by raising the education level universally in local language and culture, and the practical discipline could drastically raise the living standard, and lower the violence levels in a lot of the world. I'm not talking about the American model, that has a lot of practical deficits, but just that level would be a vast improvement. In Australia we have the same, free good education is available, but those that refuse to take it, have a much higher incidence. If you eliminated that from the statistics the actual (not reported) statistics would be much lower, and eliminating that the statistics could improve more again from better community orientated policing. Drunk culture is another massive issue, as with drugs The solution is there, but disregard and disrespect holds it back. I'm becoming more convinced that God does not want us to disrespect (and probably disregard) but sometimes disrespect is inevitable against other's disrespect, which I think God may condone, but I don't know.

Now, who's wasting time, by opposing all these things?

Is he related to Steve Jobs. Can't be Steve Wozinak or Bill Gates, he would be designing something by now.

Maybe he's a stock broker, or in the futures markets. They like having dreams of getting maxinum money for little effort. :)

No, that's going to waste too much time. We need a time machine and anti aging treatment to come with it.

Sits down - has a coffee while reading up the recent progress in epigenetics.

I think JJ is trying to help mankind on a larger scale.

+) To reduce the cost of diagnosis that only the rich can afford.
+) To help detect treatable illnesses in their early stages
+) To miniaturise the Huge machines that help with diagnosis (using technology form companies like Syrris)
+) To drastically reduce the time it takes to number crunch the data (using ASICs for high performance and low power)
+) To correlate your healthiness compared to you last yearly checkup (checking for expected age related deviations like platelet count)

... I guess JJ is working on a portable medical lab tester available for all.

Maybe he's using this thread to get ideas of what people want. Free market research :)

I agree AJ, that is a very excellent non self serving idea. As long as your not talking.about JJ Abraham doing a future Startrek movie.

One of the future projects on my list in 3D volumetric scanning technology for.medical and archiology, startrek like. Was trying to come up with ways to best the system for years, and am reasonably confident I may have methodology to do so. One of the interesting things is to scan dna live uninvasive. And to manufacture compounds on the benchtop, is wrist. Two other projects ony books. But Jim might just be talking about a fast aperture multi focal lens that cuts in your pocket band completely dies away from the need for cinema lens. What else is he going put on that phone butna smaller version of that.

The mega super lens system, that is one of the only likely thing Jim hasn't told us it isn't, and ties in with the lens mountable cinema phone design.

Jim, if you can't announce yet, how about following Jarred's lead and give us a monthly update?... hopefully at the first of the month rather than the middle of it. '-)

Ha, ha, Elsie. Next monthly update: "We are one month closer to the revolution" :smile5:
