  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New project...

Man, I could pretend to come back in my time and tell you all about it and get into an argument with my future self thinking somebody else is posting pretending to be me.

That's what you think. :001_cool:

Seems to fit the trend of appealing to the masses with smaller handheld tech devices/tools, but it could only be a part of it..

I'm still leaning toward an augmented reality headset guided drone that will allow you to explore space and underwater environments tethered by satellites, all without having to leave your home.

But it would be nice if it was a human transport drone that could do the same mostly on earth and in low orbit space.. (E.M.)

Hydrogen powered drone large enough to carry two people....

Now even I'm impatient. That camera phone is good, but one thing I've thought with my own camera phone design. What happens if somebody calls, or texts. I know, funny thought, but seriouse too. On the one hand it would be most embodying even if you turned the volume and vibrator off, but on the other hand you cut off communications requiring somebody else on silent mode to monitor the often administration calls on set. But for virtually single handed crews where the principle might be the camera man, it could be an issue.

You need a silent mode with on screen notification bar, Bluetooth headset, for monitoring too, and a accumulate button to send all future notifications of calls and messages to a numbered icon, so instead of flashing the little icon registers missed calls as a number and one missed messages as a number, that also shifts color subtly during a call or fresh message so as not to be distracting. These are the finer points accomodating more styles and people that make a design great. It's like why film a digital baked in mode when you can do it all yourself on film, because some people find it convenient.

Another thing I had planned to introduce many years ago, was a heads up display on camera so you can detach from where you are pointing the camera in live situations. At the money I have to mentally track objects in the vancinity to avoid falling over them. One time I walked backwards through a large branchy fallen branch after a cyclone. Another time over a over the legs of a lighting or speaker rig. You Lola where you going you are at risk of moving the frame on Saturday handheld device.

Heads up displays ate not so bad. You use one eye, and as there is a standard optimal field of view that doesn't include peripheral vision, you only need to place the display on part of the visible of that eye, during straightened llght so you don't have to focus or the more conventional floating at a distance image. The one I was more interested for various applications was this one where the display is split across the nose to appear as a solid display in central vision, taking up very little vision, as it impart replaces the image of your nose. You just have to be careful to avoid tripping. Anyway, in the day time you might combine with neutral density sun glasses or photo chromatic type. You can actually do this so that it is more evident you have something around your nose to people looking at the normal sun glades from the front, which makes a sellable applied Android pair of glasses, even using a transparent image to make it more invisible even at night when a photochromatic is clearest, and gives better visibility to avoid obstacles. Something very good for Oakley Jim? I also was planning a very good cheap alternative heads up game system with big sales ability.

Wayne, do you have engineering? You seem to have an affinity for discussion of electrical design ideas?

Computer scientist and developer of various technical and science. Normally hang with engineers during study. Little bit of hardware studies, lot of private research. Should have studied engjneering, the computer stuff was too easy as I was on my way planning and attempting to design the most advanced virtual os. I was planning my own products company before Apple did it with the i products. Known top people in engineering and computer science. Sad thing is, you don't find trust worthy people, and when Microsoft announces they spent 100 man years developing the vastly inferior windows (xp or earlier), you know it's time to give up if you don't have the money to put in to get people for the man years and oncressknh standards and protocols). The world is..... and it is all their fault. There must be at least 100 people like me around and tens of 1000's close enough that can change the things for the better. Then there are a bunch of people that control things in their own interests employing people not really that competent. The world is about self fulfillment of a very few from lots of individual's perspectives. A lot of people I talk to are insincere to unfortunately. It seems to be a commonly accepted rat race thing by the limited in vision who can't even see what is said to interpret it last their own self interests.

The above I organise in my mind on the fly, most of the working day if needed. So I can run through tens of thousands of factors in several hours instinctively, and hundreds of resulting end design elements. Count how many I've assessed above while skipping thousands of irrelevant factors and that will give you an idea of how many seconds it takes me and how many weeks and months it normally takes engineers to realise these things (the peak refinement of a product) during development. If only I could program that fast. But then again, the social network made out Mark Zuckerberg could program that fast and look at facebook was like. Quantity Quality.

Rather than post the following in a new thread, I thought it best to put it here since everyone is attuned to futuristic ideas. The article is about wireless terahertz broadband and already is a real thing being done by Japanese investigators.

Fairly old news. I remember Elvis, the original Russian prototype technology back in the 90's, achieve for fantastic rate like 1 mb/s. I've seen the figures for how much a handheld device was estimated to be able to handle with all frequencies, something like 50 terabits per second, or some 50 number lower or higher. Long time ago. But you will be interested to know that there is a wireless HD standard for years now, by the people Tlthat did hdmi that can do similar speeds to that in the 90ghz spectrum. I remember it was in the 20 gb/s range, but they had a version that could do in the 30 gb/s. I've advocated in the past it was a usefully wireless recording standard for cinema cameras. Problem is the higher frequency that you go the less frequencies tend to penetrate objects (90ghz is a pretty line of sight standard that is range restricted by interaction with air (there are a number of absoprtion bands with more clear bands inbetween). I've been working on theories to get around some of this.

No time to read the whole thread, but I think it might be drone related, allows some sort of Red camera integration, and will be usable by environmental and emergency services to help fight forest fires, count endangered species, monitor coral reef bleaching, monitor polar ice retreat, keep track of oil spills and similar. Anyone who thinks humans aren't on a fast track to making the Earth extremely hostile, if not uninhabitable, for humans isn't paying attention.

Just a wild guess with very little evidence to back it up

Pretty good guess actually.

Don't they do this already? There are various tools that perform these functions. Not that I think your idea can't work - it's just not that revolutionary from what I can tell. Jim's comments imply something in a different direction, IMO, despite his interest in wildlife etc.

Wayne, it seems that nothing would surprise you. Are you like a real-life Bruce Wayne or something? ;-)

Lol Karmin, I wish. :smile5: All the really really cool stuff I could do to help people. It'd be like the the x files in reverse. As a SciFi writer I have to think of many new ways to do science and technology. The stuff I could do is amazing. Control the weather, make replicators, not this boring stuff. A number of my friends have been military intelligence, top engineers etc. I hear about stuff that conspiracy theorists would love to hear. Of course I'm not allowed to know real details, so figure it out myself.

But do I want to dress up as Batman, make cool vehicles like Jim owns and weapons, and go batty, no. I would just like to use technology, design, money and literature to help people.

Now, let's see what unsurprising thing Jim brings up to compare to my catalogue of thousands of design proposals  (and not one better golf ball among them, but a design flashed plainfilly in my head as I type the a or n in "and". Got a headache now the brain went into over load designing it. Never got a headache before). That's one of the fastest ever, a split second, normally it would takes seconds or minutes without going through the side factors. I call this one the climber. Headache is still there. Just hitting my head to reset the neural connections.

Anyway, I was being funny about the unsurprising bit. I'm pretty genuinely interested and excited about good things.

My guess is Jim is working on a new type of lens. The RPPs and RPZs were good, but they had conventional optics design.
There are some new concepts out there like folded optics and liquid optics.
These sort of lenses should save space, help you travel lighter, and save time changing lenses. They will obviously require some new electronics.
You all will put deposits for those. Guaranteed by Jim.
