  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New project...

We are close...

Next Best Guess

Next Best Guess

Mobile POV capture device with wavelet based (realtime) encoding served with scalable video coding (SVC) architecture. I'm gonna stay with Jim's pedigree of optics and image capture.

That is a good idea M.

I have not read all the thread but is there any hint its "camera" related at all?

That patent, if real, indicates that even if not this product, a camera product is also coming.

We are close...

Jim, I hope you will release the news here simultaneously with your social network releases. Some of us just don't feel as comfortable on social media as we do here on REDuser.

and viceversa

I know a lot of people are guessing camera related things, but I still contend it's something with broader impact. Jim indicated this is big. Not time travel big, but big. To me that eliminates cameras or things we almost expect to be invented or evolved. Perhaps whatever it is has a connection somehow to capturing images, but I'm going to assume that Jim is onto something that will have global impact.

If I was going to guess something in the optics realm, it would be they have discovered a way to restore sight to blind. That would certainly have global impact.

My Final Feeble Guess

My Final Feeble Guess

Have we ruled out holography - plasmonic photography?

Mate, if it is that camera I'm going be excited enough (particularly if it is sub $1k, even $2k with storage, battery, controller and multifical fast lens). Would put a dull light on BM and Craft.

So, really only one person on this thread knows all the details. :)

I'll be curious just how close or far away the guesstimates were

Sorry guys I haven't read this whole thread so forgive me if this speculation has been covered already.

Light Field Camera.

Assuming it's camera related. But I'm sure Jim has a broader focus than that.

As we get closer, this is going to be my prediction:

Like some people already mentioned, it might have to do with VR or augmented reality.

Jim has had the opportunity to see some incredible stuff, not just the places he's had the chance to travel to, but he has also seen some of the most incredible footage that has been captured with RED and even other imaging devices. National Geographic footage, NASA, you name it, just spectacular stuff which all could serve as inspiration.

So what if we could be transported to many of these places in a matter of seconds? Not tele-transportation obviously (though that would be incredible), but an electronic device or system that would allow people experience a location in a very intimate and special way. You could just "be there"

A device or system like the one I just mentioned covers electronics, time, and travel. I'm missing space. Space could be literal, just another location we could travel to, but it could also be a satellite, which would control and/or broadcast for this device or system, if that's the case maybe another hint could be the word "communication" but maybe giving that hint would have been giving too much away.

Or it might be something completely different, but if I'm close, do I get a cookie?
