Had not seen or if I had, didn't remember those quotes of Jim's. I think you have just made the big reveal... and it sounds exciting.

This is what I was thinking, especially since Ted Shilowitz is in charge of VR at 20th century. There was a post a few years ago where Jim said they were working on lightfields, and that is a big component of magic leap. It's a perfect fit -- the optics, the wearable glasses, the extreme image processing -- all things that Jim has experience with. Maybe he thinks Magic Leap is something different than standard AR/VR, or like you said, this has nothing to do with it.
As to the Jim quote "One thing I will say is that we are working on multiple focus and depth map (think Lytros) but with wicked high resolution... The prototype is incredible. Don't tell Gizmodo or Engadget."
I remember Jim Jannard saying that at the time... However I remember the context of the discussion and he was totally taking the piss/saying that in jest/ tongue in cheek.
From everything that Jannard has said its pretty clear he's not into AR/VR or anything of the sort. Doesn't mean that an entire technology should be consigned to the dustbin forever just because JJ says so, nor does it mean that he has come up with something that is far superior to current VR or AR... Or something that makes real world applications of VR tech obsolete either.
The "key" I'm pretty sure is to be found in "Rent" "Racing Extinction"... Not 100% sure why knowing what JJ may be getting up to slightly in advance is of any advantage really ? Either you are ready or you are not... There's not a lot of middle ground there IMO... LOL
This link from the RED Laser Projector thread has me wondering if there is a tie-in somehow with Jim's big reveal.
As I said, we have a wireless standard that can be worked in from silicon image.
That too. But that technology far outstrips what WiFi is currently offering.
The effects of this would be quite positive. No longer do you need >4K to give a 4K image. So your photosites can be a bit larger. It could be a way to read the colour of a photon without a filter? It would benefit RED cameras and other gadgets too??
Tell the people at RED!Invented that.
