  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NEW PREMIERE CC AND AE AVAILABLE NOW

it is what it is...I have a rocket as well

certain codecs are faster at exporting as well....I know cineform is slow

Try a DPX export to test

All that being said....I am doing a render to h264 for preview right now as I type.... 3k...just single pass vbr...and I am getting 3x faster than realtime...
so there obviously is some more speed to be had

Your settings all look good....
and it seems you exported right from PPro instead of going through AME...which is good....AME sometimes will not use rocket....

yeah, I just find it weird that Resolve, Redcine-X, etc are faster at exporting with the same sequences with these same settings. I guess I just expected it to be much faster than this. Kind of disappointing.

h.264 4k (4096x1754) at 15mbps vbs 1 pass still costs me 7 minutes for a 3.30 piece. Something most be slowing my system down a bit. My cores are pegged out on render but this doesn't seem fast enough.

What is the speed of the disk system you're writing to? 4k DPX is 51 MB per frame. So unless you have a very fast RAID, yeah, it'll be slow. 4k sustained uncompressed transfer rate is @ 1.2GB per second. It's not the debayer that's slowing you down, it's the sheer amount of data you are writing to disk. And with encoding to prores or h.264 it'll be the sheer amount of data you are processing, as the actual data will be considerably less than uncompressed DPX.

So the question becomes... why are you rendering 4k? If you're finishing / presenting 4k then you'll have to live with the over 4x data size and accompanying speed / computing hits. If you're not finishing at 4k, you may want to consider rendering at your finishing resolution.

Cineform is the worst I use. I took for ever to render! Animation is ok speed on but it take so much space. Feels like cc isnt any faster on rendering. Need to do more testing but first impressions is that its not faster. Having a Gtx 690 I was hoping to speed up the renders abit.

The 4k render was for testing. I have a project that is being finished at 4K so I wanted to see what speeds I would get. I just don't understand how the same clips in Resolve and Redcine-X get real time or better exports, but Premiere CC is double real time at best going to 4K H.264. Makes no sense...

a lot of this is codec dependant....

I also find h.264 one of the fastest exports.

It doesn't really bother me...as 2-4 times realtime is ok for me....and if i need the speed for a preview i can get it

I pulled off a 1.5 hour h.264 720p preview of 3k in about 35 minutes last night...

we could do some tests and see the differences, and then make adobe aware and put the heat on them to improve it.

its too bad...because cineform is my favorite codec

I know you contacted adobe about this...what was the feedback? was it something cineform can fix?

Are you using the same H264 encoder? That and encoding settings can make a huge difference on render time.

single pass VBR? or CBR?

once you go 2 pass VBR that will effectively double render time....
