  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New MacPro predictions? Hopes? Fears?

Looking forward to something...courageous.

I'm just hoping that if they make an iMac Pro they'll continue to offer the Mac Pro. I need them to refresh that system, I've been waiting too long.

Speculation:
Apple will (more then likely) continue to sell the current tube Mac Pro w/out upgrades/announcement/price-adjustments until at least late 2017(or 2018), then announce it is discontinued and available only until supplies are exhausted.

The only Apple product I am considering is the next generation MBP, if they don't screw that up as well, which according to the track record is likely. I'd take that style and new keyboard feel from 12 inch MB, 4K 709 capable screen others are using for a while now and at least a new generation mid powered GPU. Provided there isn't something removed again, as a usb port, normal headphone jack or a power button etc, compensated with a fluorescent lollipop. Not expecting much though, to avoid further disappointments.

Jarred said the new USB-c mini mag reader ships on the 27th (Before the official confirmation of apples event date). The new macs are rumored to have all USB-c connections. He continually drops hints about apple not disappointing the pro market. The 8k helium officially launches weeks before 8k support in final cut.... it all seems a bit more than coincidence. I smell something funny here. Anyone else?

I doubt you'll find it funny trying to work with 8k material on an iMac. Haha...

No that would be the farthest thing from funny... However I think there's been some secrete communications between the two.

"And to show you the new Final Cut Pro please welcome Jarred Land from red digital cinema"

No you're imagining all that. Nothing to see (or smell) here, move along... ;)

...And Jarred isn't the only one around here that might know about some of these things.

Hopefully Wikileaks can get to the bottom of this rather tricky Red Apple connection.

Tuning MacOS around low-latency high-speed storage, and pushing atomicity towards the storage device, will bring data 'closer' to the point of compute (less OS layers), and allow file system transactions rates to scale.

Now that Apple are including ARM as a compatible chipset for Sierra, the questions for me are:
+) When will Apple add an ARM flavour Mac?
+) Will they introduce a low power laptop whose battery lasts dramatically longer (through use of Zephyr cores)
+) Or will they wait until they can match Intel on state of the art XEON and then release a high power 'system'.
+) When Apple finally move .... what will happen to Thunderbolt?

My guess is that the bean-counters would want a large number of devices - and a Mac Air with an A10x would be equivalent in CPU capacity to a low power Skylake - but in low power mode the Zephyr would use dramatically less power (wattage) .

After the switch is thrown in the MacApp store - Apple will have its first step away from x86, and software writers will 'prove' that their software 'also works' on MacOS_ARM.

I am finding a lot of great under the hood features in Sierra for heavy video processing, like the new raid oriented file system and the speed/cleanup of SMB, so I am a lot more positive on the new Mac pro then I was a few weeks ago.

Hillary's emails on Cook were released today, but I highly doubt Hillary was asking questions on the mac pro.

You were talking about Cook's emails only, then that the macpro was imminent?

I honestly admire all of the hope and enthusiasm here at the idea of Apple recommitting to the high end pro market despite a decade of steps in the opposite direction.

Woohoo!
8k running on an iMac. Can't wait for that wonderful experience...

The reason you need such high processing spec for 8k or lesser, is the format and programming. Let's see how good the programming is on finale cut, and what compression format it uses. I could get many of your PC/Macs handling 8k 1 bit black and white recorded at 5fps, even uncompressed. :) So, let's see his cinema useful formats it has.

So, a question, which formats use a lot less processing power?

I don't think I read about Jarred, but I'm being suspecting that too. However, as Jeff says, 'nothing to see here', it might only be a consumer bit rate h264 decoder encoder on the the IMac. I think one of the graphic card manufacturers announced some sort of 8k support recently.are supporting. Ambarella has had a 8k camera chipset for a few years, something like 1 or 2 watts. Probably with 8k 60fps 10 bit h265 by now.

Jarred said in the 100000 page update thread somewhere that - the new minimag reader will be USB 3.1 and be faster than the card itself offload. Also that several of these readers would be really amazing in a tb3 hub. Then someone asked when it would be available and he said October 27th. I find the alignment of dates very very interesting. But yes there is tremendous enthusiasm and hope on my end.

Ok Jeff, you got us all excited here. Expectations sky rocketed!

My fear is that when Apple makes their announcements on October 27th, it's gonna kinda be like this...
