  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New lcd monitor from smallhd

It coasts 799 USD, preorders 750 USD (just on 5th of MAY)

would be nice more info about compatible with RED.... (menu) and future scarlet...

I suppose it 'll work...but with out the RED LCD DATA informations.

Did anyone know who built this monitor, or test the pre-series with the RED ONE ???

I 'll be very cool to have answers about compatibility with RED products

Hey Guys,

This is Dale from SmallHD. I ran across this post the other day, which prompted me to find a very helpful local production company with a RED that i was able to test the monitor with.

The DP1 is in fact very compatible with the RED. In addition, using the DP1's custom over/underscan you can pull the image in to perfectly view the onscreen menu/display. Because of the odd resolution the RED sends out the HDMI port, it will initially cut off the top and bottom of the menus, but once you scale it back in and get it looking good, those settings will save until you reset them.

It was very nice, the DP1 performed very well with the RED, and as always - the more the merrier :)

Thanks, hope this helps - feel free to ask anything else if anything else needs clarification.

Thanks to Drawbridge Media, Kevin Wild and Vernon for allowing us to freely use their RED!

Dale

It was our pleasure, Dale. Sorry I wasn't there to meet you and check it out, but Vernon was very impressed with it.

I believe the separate power will be main issue?

The DP1 just requires 12vdc power, drawing less than 1.5 amps. So the auxilary port on the RED may work with the right cable. I will look more into this.

We are developing a small battery for rear mounting. We are also developing a custom mounting solution for it, that allows the battery to click in firmly to the back. It provides for a very lightweight, portable, un-awkward device.

Thanks,
Dale

Power from the camera would be a must for me and many other i think, please let us know if it works and what cable is necessary.

That's Official DP1 Pre-Order is come

this monitor looking great, it's maybe a alternative to the CARRION or RED LCD

what are you thinking of is specifications ?

And is price look also very nice

749$

Not even close if it doesn't have HD-SDI.

To be fair, by using the HDMI signal the monitor can resize to show the viewfinder data info which cannot be done from the HD-SDI signal.

Correct,

For a preview monitor, the fact that it can display menus puts it above an HDSDI device.. the RED can simultaneously output HDSDI and HDMI, so if you need HDSDI for program or recording or whatever you need it for you still can. But if you absolutely have to monitor using the HDSDI port for some reason, you won't get the menus..

Thanks
Dale

How far away are you from having battery and mount ready to sell and ship out? What would be the best way to mount this on a Red One?

PM'ed you other questions.

This monitor look very good but only in the paper. It could be a alternative to the RED LCD

May we have some picture of it on a reel RED configuration... with the battery, or plug on the auxilary port of the camera..DALE ???

I'm sure those pics are coming. Afterall, they were in taking those pictures with our RED today. :-)

I didn't spend much time with it on, but I can tell you that the prototype they brought is built like a tank and still pretty lightweight, even with the battery.

Great work, guys.

Kevin

The menu on the top is being slightly cut off, but i guarantee this won't be the case. This is our prototype thats been apart and back together 100 times, and we were short on time and didn't have time to fix a small hardware glitch we had. One day, if Kevin and his crew are generous enough we will get shots of it in action fully functioning...

Also, being our prototype unit, the finish is not what it will be... it is just raw metal in these pictures.

I need HDSDI, S-VHS...really in 2009, component...come-on too many cable connections. This could be really cool and I would buy it even for $1250 if it had the proper professional connections.
