  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NEW GROUP BUY: MICROREMOTE WIRELESS FOLLOW FOCUS

I'm testing the new wireless focus unit. It hits my marks when focusing away, but when turning back to the near marks it undershoots all the marks.

For example: focus from 3' to 5', 5 to 15 marks etc. on the wheel - hits the same witness marks on the lens.
Focus from my 15 to 5 marks and the lens doesn't go all the way to the mark - stopping around 5.5'.

I tried different torque settings and it's a little better on 8 than on 3, which may mean something.

This is on an Epic with Zeiss PL Standard prime 85mm. (which has a smooth focus ring & is not a big lens)

I have sent a message to support and I'll let you know what I find out.

There are no plans at this time for another group buy for the remote, and this buy closed back in May, unfortunately. If you're interested in picking a system up though, send me an email (alee@redrockmicro.com).

Hi Andrew, I've sent you a couple of emails and a PM over the last week. Just wanted to check in to see if these got through?
cheers!

Hi Wes,

Sorry, I don't think I've gotten anything. Can you check that the emails are headed to alee@redrockmicro.com?

For extra security, my other email address is drew@redrockmicro.com, so you can CC that as well if you like.

Thanks!

In other news, the receiver gets power from a 1b Lemo connector. Does anyone know of a source for a cable to get power from a steadicam sled to the receiver? I believe it's 1b 302 to 1b 302. Maybe Red Rock could make these cables?

Thanks

Michael

On my Steadicam rig, I use a custom made cable from my main sled power to P-Tap and got the 4-way P-Tap splitter from B&H to power my follow foucus, Paralinx arrow and Decimator.
Terry West at South Bay Film and Video Services can make (and ship) any cable you need for a great price. techrat531@verizon.net

Chad, my Teradek came with a 1/4-20 stud that has a hot shoe mount on one end. I put a W C hot shoe adapter on a NATO Clamp and Presto! Makes me wish for a NATO Clamp that just has a bolt through hole in it, tho.

Instead of Lock-Tite, you could do this: thread a stud into the base station. Drop a washer over the stud. Drop a lock washer on top of that. Thread a nut onto the stud and snug it up against the lock washer and the base station. Repeat the same procedure on the other side for the NATO Clamp or just screw it right n.

Any chance there is a manual or some tech documentation somewhere? Nothing was in the package when I received mine.

WesG, sorry about that - I finally found where your emails were going and replied. :)

In this video, how are you powering the unit? looks like there are no vmounts or modules on the back. Super curious as this is the only thing holding me back from the purchase.

Hey Domenic,

Sorry about taking so long to answer your question! I actually did have a very low profile D-Tap battery that I take pretty much everywhere (strange I know). It was a switronix series 7 and it was just simply resting on the tripod out of frame.

Hi everyone.

Those that are using their Microremote Wireless FF - what accessories would you recommend?

I'm in the process of putting in an order. So far I have
- Microremote Wireless Bundle
and have added
- Fingerwheel controller with cable
- spare marking disk
- lens gears
- Red Epic start/stop cable

Is there anything you would add?

Do you rate the carry case??

Would you advise getting spare cables? (we're a long way from anywhere)

interested in what you've added or what you feel your missing from RRM.

thx in advance
wes

I picked a Seahorse brand (Pelican style case) at Fry's for much less than they are selling their case and just cut my own foam.

Make sure you have some way to mount the Base Station to your rig. I use something like this:

Hey guys, got the package a few days ago and the RED start/stop cable came in today, however, I don't understand where to plug it in. The accessories port in the base-station and then?? Help!

Just got mine today... Love it, and the t-shirt is awesome!

Anyway, I don't run on v-mount batteries very often, so here's the alternate power source I soldered together this morning:

Got a female D-tap connector from thebroadcastshop.com and a 350mah lipo battery off ebay.

Good question as there are no instructions. We have plugged ours into the camera sync port using the Epic Sync cable using the B&C white connector and we get no love. We set the GPIO triggers to record start and stop still no love. Can somebody from Redrock please tell us how to set it up?
