  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Fast Prime Set WOW

Let me chime in with MY opinion...oh wait, I actually know :-)

These are not reworked lenses from some other design.

They are high performance precision mechanical devices with an excellent heritage and clever application of aspheric technology therefore not "cheap" but fairly priced IMHO.

We made them special just for Sanjin.

They have been in development for 3 years, by one/some of the most talented lens designer(s) in the world.

They are manufactured by a well regarded and well known high precision manufacturer located on the planet earth.

They are not made in Canada, Japan or other places suggested by people who are merely guessing.

They are not made by several manufacturers as has been suggested.

They will begin to deliver in summer 2010, not end not beginning, IN summer :-)

Phase 1 is 10 lenses - (18, 21, 25, 35, 40, 50, 75 and 100) with 16 and 65 soon after the first 8 deliver. Plan for Phase 2 (12, 14, 29, 135, 150)

They are compact and light weight with each lens under 4lbs same size and shape and 95mm front diameter.

Here is relative sze:

Size.jpg

They are only available from Band Pro and will be priced below the current MP and S4 pricing and above current UltraPrime pricing.

The cover Full Aperture 35mm.

They are designed for digital cameras in that they have a VERY high MTF for 4K and beyond (resolution) and even illumination in the corners for a very flat bright field.

They are easily serviceable and adjustable.

They have integrated net ring in the rear of the mount and a 95mm thread in front for a protective filter.

The ONLY mystery at this point is the brand name and logo...that will come on February 15th and is pretty obvious if you pay even a little attention now. But I still can't actually tell you till then.

They are cool. They are hot!

Wow.

Go Sanjin... go Sanjin... It's your b-day! :hurray:

Seriously, you have to give it to SJ for pushing so much, getting more people to talk about it, never letting up. Don't listen to the nay-sayers SJ, we all love you man.

Sweeet! The only thing left now is finding out how many will be made and sold to make sure there isn't a hike based on availability.

So far everything sounds perfect. Please make them in large numbers too.

He he he, so sweet. This is great. Can't wait to see samples!!

Is there an ETA on samples?

Sanjin, You're a genius!

And who would have thought I was annoyed by your oversized images and links. My appologies, Sanjin!

Could you do me a favour and post a couple of 6k images of Leica 150mm to persuade Michael to include one in Phase 1? LOL

All good fun!

Titanium is not found in many countries.... but Russia is one of them. Optica-Elite of St. Petersburg has the capability of producing fine lenses. Since LOMO (also of St. Petersburg) is busy building the excellent new Super 35 Illuminas (T1.3) for Luma Tech it seems likely that Elite is a likely "mystery" candidate.

Michael... I have to congratulate you guys on the original marketing! Mystery lenses! Who would have thought it?

The actual lenses sound terrific (depending on the price, of course). But if you guys need some help with original thinking... just let me know. :-)

A while ago, I blocked Sanjin. He was going nuts in one thread, and it was making the whole thing impossible to read, giving my browser endless fits.

I promptly forgot that I blocked him, and later, came across many threads that didn't make any sense at all. In fact, it seemed like the people on REDuser had gone nuts! As soon as it occurred to me to unblock Sanjin, everything suddenly made sense again. All the posts that didn't make sense were because they were responses to his posts.

Love him or hate him, Sanjin spurs so much discussion around here that it's impossible to ignore him! Whoever actually makes these lenses, I'm sure Sanjin will have plenty to say about them.

New “Mystery” PL Primes Premiered:
http://blog.fdtimes.com/?p=1085

Film and Digital Times said:
Meanwhile, we learned that the lenses have been developed by ACM Project Development Company, whose managing director is Dr. Andreas Kaufmann. That’s Dr. Kaufmann above, with a lovely new Leica M9 dangling from his neck. Dr Kaufmann also happens to be majority owner of Leica Camera and member of its board of directors.

By reading this... I guess most people would think its a Leica.

The one I was holding said made in Germany.

the 2nd part's reiteration could just be so-so but is plenty of good quality irony.. man you took the words from gang's mouth anyway.. wth?? why you're all trying to mimic red?

you'll never catch the same train no matter how fast you want to run.. JJ is unique :toetap05:

& this time he's just right

</serious>

only the vDSLRs can do it

Thanks for the "compliment" Jim :-) Since I am not in a marketing position (right now) we had no "intent" to use Mystery as a marketing term. What do you call a lens that because of legal restrictions on trade name or branding must remain a mystery until we can publicly share this on Feb 15th...mystery lens seemed simple and straight forward. No real intent of using THAT as marketing when we have working compact high performance lenses that shoot images and can be projected, just no name printed on them yet.
The price is lower than MP or S4 or 5i but definitely higher than 3 Red Pro Primes. Ill have to bring em by for you to see sometime. As far as original thinking...love the help when you have a minute. But your plate seems pretty full right now :-)

Mimic? Which train am I trying to catch? We have been in this business for 25 years pretty much doing the same thing for 25 years.

So the word Mystery is now also off limits? :emote_headwall:

How about Lens, PL Mount or Prime ? Just post a list of words so we all know.

Phew... fan boys give me a headache.:mad5:

Is Russia in Germany?

Michael I think your lenses sound very interesting - low weight being a nice feature. Last week I shot with master primes again (starting to like them alot) But a peli case with a 4 MP's ... pretty heavy to carry around...

Mystery lenses, I like that - no offence Jim:)

The focusing is a cam design and the feel is more S4 like than Ultra Prime like.
This is the only conventional way to make identical focus scales possible..

Thanks..

I appreciate that a cam design is the way lens designers have been able to expand scales (near the far end).

What I can't understand is how a 150mm lens can have the same focus scale as a 25mm. For a start their minimum focus will be at least 2ft different??

Anyway it all very exciting and I'm sure all will be revealed soon..

If they are perfect mechanically, just above UP's in price and the size they are in the picture.. I'm definitely very interested.. What will absolutely sell them to me (get my money out time) is if they perform MP like wide open BUT have a more natural, especially when pushed into flareing, quality..
