  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Fast Prime Set WOW

Leica Movie Lens AG :)

Unfortunately I'll have to wait till February to see if my wild guess was right :)

Nope wont have to wait till then, I can tell you now that your wild guess is wild and not right, good detective work, wrong conclusion..sorry

A bit more detective work digged up that Dr. Andreas Kaufmann founded an "optical park" near Wetzlar a couple of years ago, and it seems that it houses "ViaOptic" for lenses and "Uwe Weller" for precision housings for lenses.

It seems that more than 45 million Euro have been invested and Kaufmann wanted to make it a new optics-habitat.

If I was a businessman, who invests over 45 million into an "optic-park", would I not design something revolutionary there and try to make a boatload of money with it?

The question would be of course the brand, but if bandpro can't use it for a while anyways it might be something new anyways.

This time??? :)

You are getting Warm
Not really secret that Andreas was the gentleman who made the announcement at our One World Event Thursday afternoon.

BTW Via Optic does make precision lenses,
for automobile tail lights and dashboard displays and they are located in the The Leitz Park in Wetzlar

Mimic? Which train am I trying to catch? We have been in this business for 25 years pretty much doing the same thing for 25 years.
the man has smoked your pants in less than ten per cent of that

Wow, does that mean that its going towards "plastic" lenses? Is this why you can achieve such a weight? Is this maybe the revolutionary part of those lenses?

Maybe that's why you can achieve such unheard-of specs.

http://www.viaoptic.de/main/de/download/pressebericht_0503.pdf - a datasheet in German stating that viaoptic revolutionized plastic lenses.

Getting hot?

This tread gets totally in a wrong direction, some people have got crazy that even Irmeli R

would like to pay a bottle of whiskey to "block me" but fortunetaly she can't, ha, ha , heh heh heee!!!

Btw, here is one of my latest whiskey bottles used at the last RED tests, cheers Yolks!!!

Guys,

Michael Bravin already answered on those questions:

Sanjin,

Did he?

What is the definition of "Full Aperture 35mm" and "4K and beyond" again? Can you bear with my ignorance and language incompetence for a second and give me a straight forward answer so that we are on the same page?

Thank you.

cmon

ice cold

I merely was saying that Via Optiks makes molded plastic precision lenses for auto dash boards, instruments and tail lights, so your thinking they make Cine Lenses too???

Smaller lenses mean small lens elements which results in less glass which means less weight. Simple actually

Plastic is not yet a viable material for Cine lenses.

All that means Dr. Kaufmann could open a totally new company to make those lenses and can't use name Leica because of some reasons or issues like a patent law, patent infringement and so...

sanjin J ehehehe your new avatar rocks.. best of the block

Since you asked Sanjin, I'll answer

Here ya go, for clarity of communication

When I refer to Full Aperture 35mm it is .980 x .735

By 4K and beyond, I refer to the MTF performance/resolution/even illumination, designed for 4K resolution sensors and future higher pixel resolution sensors on Cine Cameras.

I guess that COULD be true
but the fact that it is NOT true
makes that guess inaccurate.

Andreas own 96.5% of Leica, does it make sense that he couldn't use his own trade names and logos? I can ask him but I'm thinking that's not it.

This reminds me of when people thought that because Jim used to make sunglasses and sunglasses are lenses that Oakley made Red Pro Primes. Guess that wasn't true either.

Thanks, Michael,

The original question was actually for you. Maybe you missed it and Sanjin chimed in with the above comment quoting partial statement from your other post.

The original question from me was whether the Mystery Primes will cover the 30mm X 15mm Epic sensor evenly. I wanted a clarification because some poster on this thread are under the impression that your new lenses will even cover 36mm X 24mm full frame 135 still format which I think is physically impossible. For me, the image circle dimension is one of the most important purchase decision factors.

Thanks again for the clarification.

Michael,

there is no better name for new lenses than it is Leica, that is itself one of the most famous camera and lens brands ever.

If Dr. Kaufmann owes all those percentages in Leica Camera AG and also rights with Leica brand name why not simply titled the new lenses LEICA PL LENSES.

Master Primes are probably named Carl Zeiss/Arri Master Prime S35mm PL lenses and with it Zeiss means a lot in all ways of perfect optics,

Arri brand name is lot more connected with movie cameras. Just to mention that before Zeiss Schneider-Kreuznach made glass for Arri movie cameras, right?
