  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New DJI Ronin M

I don't get noise... Mandatory calibration required to get good operation and no jitters... make sure all your axis are balanced, on dji assist, and it has a calibration function, it really helps to do every other 10 shots or lens changes... it makes a clean shot every time, will be using my scarlet soon! keep you posted.:cornut:

It's just a faint buzzing/grinding, and silent mode does eliminate it entirely. Still, I'm guessing others have no noise whatsoever. Should I be concerned?

Also, is there a way to bring this to DJI for maintenance? I'm in LA and would love to just get it turned up and checked.

Ok. So i'm not experiencing any buzzing issues or anything like that. I do however have the Gimbal pretty well balanced. The issue i'm having is i'm noticing the gimbal is getting off axis on the horizon line pretty quickly? I haven't paired it with the App because i've read people having issues after that.

Any tips? It doesn't take long til it starts tipping over, maybe 10-15 steps.

Hmmm...counting myself, you may be the third or 4th person in this thread who has mentioned a similar issue. I always reset the gimbal for new takes, but that gets annoying after a while, and so does having it start to go lopsided in the middle of a long move. Considering setting the Roll Smoothtrack to something that would let me conveniently manage that but I haven't yet used the app to measure whether it knows that it is off-axis or if it thinks it's still at 0 degrees horizon-wise.

The only thing I can think of is adjusting that particular motor? That seems to be the resolution i find online the most.

For those curious, just got my Ronin M yesterday, and there was NO way to balance my stripped scarlet Dragonn (rokinon 35mm) properly without tilt extensions. (battery & monitor on handlebars). Even tried mounting upside down, but the roll axis was still far from balanced. Cinemilled TILT extensions come in the mail tomorrow so i will update.

I got DJI's and I had it balanced in less than 5 minutes. Pretty quick and easy.

My original ronin handled it perfectly fine and i could balance it in less than a minute.
i'm saying a Red Scarlet Dragon's perfect balance is not possible on a ronin M without some modifications..

Something I found when turing the PID to max power. You get much better horizontal stability (PAN-motor) if you put a tejp om the screv on the top boom. When it was ratteling around I just got 40 on the top motor before it started ociliating, but after making it not move I can go to 80 power making huge difference in stability.

Yup, I needed to add the weight of the lipos on the bottom of the camera to balance without extensions. Our cine milled extentions came but they didn't line up very well (bad machining on ronin m) and they were slightly thinner than the ronin arm so anywhere over the joint or below required Allen key adjustment. Someone should make a one piece arm to replace the standard ronin arm for seamless adjustment.

perfect balance

perfect balance

balanced perfectly now with the tilt extensions. battery going in a backpack behind me.

A friend of mine just bought a brand new Ronin-M and is exhibiting the same roll drift as me...

The Google solution seems to suggest that downgrading the firmware is the only fix so far. DJI support forums all just mention hitting system calibrate. So it seems that this is a firmware issue.

I Jake,
I am completely new on the power cable, could you let us know the reference you will use and the v-lock plate too ?

Many thanks !

Here is the Dtap to Epic power cable I bought on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/251709780194?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
I'm just plugging the Dtap directly into my battery and throwing my Vmount battery in a backpack. Cable is 1.5 meters long so it kinda dangles out of the backpack and into the RED. Works well

Oh Many thanks Jake ! I didn't understand that a vlocl battery is able to powered a red via D-tap ! Sounds really good !

Thanks for the link !

Good stuff Adam. Liked the look of the piece.

Just finished a bunch of shoots all using the Ronin M. Here's an example!

Any questions about how it performs, just ask!

Cheers
Adam
